Is This Heaven?

If you are a fan of Porsche, and of course you are since you're here, then this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed was something akin to the promise land for you. In celebration of Porsche's 70th anniversary, everything in Lord March's front garden was dedicated to all things black head long horse. Behold the majesty that is Porsche.

What in the World?!

Right there smack when anyone entered the grounds of Goodwood, there was an amazing centerpiece sculpture that was equal parts art and manifestation of what Porsche has done over the decades of engineering. This polar white seven-pointed star was designed by Gerry Judah and holds aloft the 356, 917, 959, 918 Spyder, 919 Le Mans prototype, and 911 R. The single point that does not hold a Porsche in place is meant to stand for Porsche's continued success and evolution. The sculpture stands high at 170 feet and looks as if it defies the very laws of physics.

Porsche Overload

Once inside the paddock area, you'd be greeted by rows upon rows of Porsche models that play like the greatest hits of the automaker. Cars from all eras with some from private owners and collectors along with others that came straight from the archives back in Stuttgart. Many of these cars didn't just come here to sit in the shade and be babied with constant polishing. Each day, there were Porsches out on the hill climb with dedicated sessions to get on the circuit with guests of the festival, VIPs, famous folks, and former drivers all taking a crack at the cars.

Prototypes Too

Cars spotted out on the hill climb were automotive icons like the one of one 961 Group B racer that you'd normally see sitting on a pedestal living a sedentary life. The LMP2000 prototype that never made it to the circuit in its time was also on hand at the festival but unfortunately,  it was just a display only model for unknown reasons. The cool thing about it was that anyone could just walk right up to the car and have a look around. The car could possibly never be seen again outside of the museum due to its rarity.

Where it all Started

Closing this out is the OG Porsche, AKA the 356/1, AKA the most expensive and sought-after Porsche at the event this year. Mark Webber was the man behind the wheel of the car that started it all way back in 1948 and is still running just fine today. The car packs a whopping 35 horsepower and gets to say hi to 60mph in a blinding 23 seconds. A priceless piece of history and there it was, still thrilling both the young and old who happened to witness it.
