Porsche Design Celebrates New Dakar 911 With Fresh Timepieces
The perfect complement to the new off-road-focused Porsche.
Special Occasion
Porsche recently shocked the world when it debuted the new 911 Dakar, an off-road-focused version of its iconic sports car. However, it's no surprise that the brand decided to capitalize on the surging popularity of the Safari 911, particularly when we consider the history of that sports car off the pavement. Now, Porsche Design is commemorating this historic occasion with the launch of some new timepieces, too.

Just as Rugged
These two new timepieces - Chronograph 1 - 911 Dakar and the Chronograph 1 - 911 Dakar Rallye Design Edition - are exclusively available to buyers of the new 911 Dakar, and each features a world-first highly scratch-resistant case made of titanium carbide to make it every bit as rugged as its automotive counterpart.

Special Material
Five years of development work went into capturing the innovative spirit of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, who once said "It gives me pleasure to make things better." Aside from being immune to desert sand, titanium carbide is not subject to any visible aging process, is hypoallergenic, and even lighter than titanium. The ceramic material is easily distinguished by its black powder–coated look and elegant crystal structure, while the abbreviation "TiC" (titanium carbide) adorns the dial in a bright shade of red.

Feature Rich
The Chronograph 1 - 911 Dakar contains a number of notable features, including the red 60-of-the-minute scale on the dial, while the markings of the small hour display for whole hours are wider than the half-hour markings. The dial in black offers a sporty contrast to the Porsche Design WERK 01.240 with flyback function lettering in red. With the “911 Dakar” lettering above the date display at 3 o’clock, the chronograph clearly reveals its many similarities with the limited Porsche special model.

Familiar Colors
Meanwhile, the Chronograph 1 - 911 Dakar Rallye Design evokes memories of a historic motorsport success with an additional rough roads graphic in white, blue, gold, and red in small seconds - back in 1984, Porsche won the automobile classification of the Paris–Dakar desert rally with the modified 953 in these colors.

Auto Inspired
The COSC-certified Porsche Design WERK 01.240 features a flyback function that combines starting, stopping, and resetting in a single operation. The quick-change system present in the leather straps also works in the same spirit, enabling those pieces to be swapped out without the use of tools. The strap features contrast stitching in Shadegreen and perforation with backing made of Race-Tex in Shadegreen, which is derived from the seat material used in the Porsche 911 Dakar. The leather strap for the Chronograph 1 - 911 Dakar Rallye Design Edition features black leather and contrast stitching as well as perforation with backing made of Race-Tex in Shark Blue.
