Grand Tourer

It's no secret that Porsche makes some very high-performing vehicles that are also comfortable, luxurious, and reliable. But in terms of a classic grand tourer, well, there isn't really a model in the current lineup that fits that mold. Thus, that's precisely what artist Sreenath Sundaram set out to create by using his 3D modeling skills, and the results are undoubtedly interesting.

Finding Inspiration

The goal of this project was fairly simple - take Porsche's classic styling cues and integrate them into a proper high-performance coupe that also places an emphasis on comfort over long distances. Inspiration for the exterior design itself came from the iconic Porsche 917, which Sundaram stripped down and simplified as much as possible for a more modern look.

A Warm Hug

Next, Sundaram worked to create a sweeping design that wrapped around the entire length of the car, and as we can see from his early sketches, he toned things down a bit on the finished product. The front end, interestingly enough, was designed using "the expression of a warm hug" as inspiration to give it a friendly and approachable appearance.

Smooth Transition

The rear of the GTE concept takes a bit of inspiration from the early 911, which features "surfaces that converge smoothly towards the end," as Sundaram notes. Meanwhile, wide fenders give it a more muscular overall appearance, with a smooth transition from front to rear.

Lounge-Like

The interior of the GTE echoes the exterior design with the same sweeping design and a pair of seats that were inspired by lounge chairs, because the whole point of a GT car is long-distance comfort, after all. The driver steers the car via a square wheel, and a set of gullwing doors adds a nice exotic touch to the mix.

Electrified Power?

Sundaram stops short of mentioning what sort of powertrain might be used in the theoretical GTE, but one could assume that it would be an EV given its futuristic design. Truthfully, Porsche could just give it the same electric motivation available in the Taycan family and it would be good to go.

Time to Shine

Of course, this is just a dream put to paper by a talented artist, so we can't actually expect it to reach production. But the idea of a Porsche grand tourer is a good one, and Sundaram's design certainly deserves some time in the spotlight, at the very least.
