Special Exclusive Variants

Porsche has never shied away from developing special edition variants for its lineup of cars. Each exclusive model has always followed a strict methodology and this might not change any time soon. For 2020, the German automaker is building a special model that will pay tribute to one of the most popular racing legends: Jacky Ickx.

Carrera 4S Belgian Legend Edition

Kicking off the new year is a new special variant of the 992-generation 911 that will only see 75 examples produced. It is dubbed the Carrera 4S "Belgian Legend Edition." Interestingly, the model will only be sold in Belgium, Ickx's hometown. All efforts are in a bid to celebrate his 75th birthday.

Ickx's Accomplishments

Jacky Ickx was born on January 1, 1945, in Brussels. He is known as one of the greatest race car drivers of the 19th Century. This is thanks to his multiple victories in several Formula 1 races both for Lotus and Ferrari. He also took position one six times in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Other races in which he came on top include the Dakar Rally and the Can-AM Championship. All these winning were achieved during a career that spanned almost 2 decades.

Why Ickx

While his accolades are impressive, Ickx's commemoration comes from the fact that he has worked with Porsche as a test driver for several models. He has spent decades helping the Stuttgart-based automaker develop better cars. This helped the two develop a close friendship in the process.

Bespoke Features

The car boasts of an exterior X Blue paint that perfectly mimicks the midnight blue that appears on Ickx's trademark racing helmet. It's the first model to receive Porsche's beloved Paint To Sample treatment. The same blue is used on the 21-inch and 20-inch Carrera Classic wheels that are offset by minute white accents.

Interior

The interior comes with black leather seats and Ickx's signature embedded on the central leather armrest. Pebble Grey cross-stitching cuts across the dashboard, rear trim, and door panels which were all finished by hand. Ickx's autograph is also incorporated on the B-pillar badge and key fob. 18-way Sports seats come with headrests and '911' lettering.

Initiative

The idea to make a car in Ickx's honor was birthed by "D'Ieteren," a Belgian Porsche importer in 2018. It then took shape when the 992 model arrived. Experts from D'Ieteren and Style Porsche came together to design a special creation that would pay fitting homage to one of the greatest race car drivers in history.
