Rare and Pristine

Every generation of the Porsche Speedster is obviously rare. Some more than others. But if you're a fan of the '89 variant, you won't find many nicer than this ultra low-mile example we spotted recently at Bring a Trailer. With just 41 miles on the clock, it's a nicely preserved piece of history, that's for sure.

Never Titled

Only around 800 of these cars were built for the U.S. market in 1989, which makes this beauty a rare sight. But unlike many of its brethren, this particular car was purchased new in New Jersey, shipped to Los Angeles, and immediately placed in storage. It was never even titled or registered for street use, in fact.

Slew of Maintenance

The original owner kept the car all these years until recently selling it to a dealer, who offered it up for sale at BaT. Prior to that, they performed a ton of maintenance including adjusting the valves, detailing the engine bay, cleaning the fuel system, replacing the door handle seals, decklid shocks, engine insulation pad, brake hoses, fluids, filters, belts, and installing new tires.

Few Flaws

Like all Speedsters, this Guards Red beauty features Turbo-look bodywork, a low-cut windshield, Fuchs wheels, and unique front valence. This one's also obviously near perfect, outside of a small chip in the hood and one side of the rear decklid.

Plush But Spartan

Everything else about this 911 is, as you'd imagine, pretty much picture perfect. The interior is stitched in optional black leather, and features a host of amenities including heated and eight-way power seats with lumbar support, cruise control, and an amplifier. But things like crank windows and the lack of a rear seat are in place to reduce weight.

Adding On

Additional options include a rosewood dash, which cost a reported $4,000 to add on to the car. Under the hood, you'll find the familiar 3.2-liter flat-six engine that was originally rated at 217 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. It's backed up by the legendary G50 five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.

More Special

As far as 911 Speedsters go, this particular example is about as nice as they get. So it's no surprise that as of this writing, the car has already been bid up past $200,000 with several days to go. It isn't often you find a never-titled, never-registered car like this, which makes this particular 911 that much more special than most.
