Piece of Art

Akira Nakai of RAUH-Welt Begriff chose to name it "The Highest Star," and for good reason. Just as we have become accustomed to with RWB, this masterpiece carries their signature superb level of quality and craftsmanship all around. But before we get into the specifics, let's talk about how the build came about.

Atlanta, Georgia builder, Tate Askew recalls drawing inspiration for this project from the Martini seats. In fact, they based the whole build around the seats. He had wanted to build a Martini Porsche for a long time. And when it came time, a 1989 Silver Anniversary Carrera edition was the chassis of choice. The special 911 then underwent some reconstructive surgery.

Signature Power

Now let's get down to the numbers. The RAUH-Welt Begriff built Porsche in question is powered by an air-cooled 3.3L long block engine boosted by Tate's custom-made center mounted turbo system with dual Turbosmart wastegates. The turbocharging duties are undertaken by a custom-made twin-scroll Honeywell Garrett unit, helping the powerplant achieve 600HP. In true race car fashion, the car is not equipped with AC, heat, or even a radio, making it just as fun to drive as you like it, while you enjoy the beautiful note coming from the back.

Begging to be Driven

The weight saving measures bring the car down to a mere 2400lbs, making it a rocket when combined with the awesome power. Askew utilized a custom coilover kit for better handling, as well as a set of Brembo brakes to tame the 600 horses. "The Highest Star" wears Work Meister S1 three-piece wheels as well to go with the look and the performance. This Porsche is made to be driven. And it's meant to be driven fast, which is just what Tate intends for it.

Tribute

Once you're inside and sitting on the Martini Recaro seats, you will notice the carbon roof, as well as the vintage Martini steering wheel. Nakai's RWB signature can be seen on the dashboard on the passenger side, and custom gauges decorate the instrument panel with the tachometer right in the middle. Other subtle hints of cool sportiness around the interior include a Wevo billet aluminum shifter and 911 RS carpets on the floor, all of which compliment the vintage look of the 964 interior perfectly.

Down to the Details

The hood is another panel made of carbon besides the roof, in an effort to save as much weight as possible. RWB's Nakai's handy work is visible in every corner of the car. The tasteful widebody kit, combined with aero parts at the front, and a tall rear wing give the car its recognizable attitude. And of course, the subtle touch of RWB branded headlights rounds it all out with the third-read details.

As Good as it Gets

The most prominent aspect of the Porsche's look, undeniably, is the Martini livery. Tate started with a Mercedes-McLaren silver, a great base to compliment the oncoming Martini colors. The branded livery itself is inspired in part by the 1974 "Baby Turbo" 2.1 livery, combined with elements from that of the '73 Targa Florio RSR. The graphics were made of course, with Nakai's custom bodywork in mind.

Successfully modifying the magnificent 964 is no easy feat by any means. But all told, the Porsche project dubbed RWB's Highest Star has to be among the most respectable builds we have seen.
