Daily Slideshow: Reasons There Will Never Be Another Carrera GT

For some reason they always look best in silver, but no matter what color scheme or interior combinations they were given, one thing remains true of all: they share the DNA of the greatest sports car ever made.

Real Racing Engine

The story behind this engine is drool-worthy: Porsche starts developing a car for the GT1 racing series and in a convoluted turn of events ditches a traditional flat 6 design for a V10. Eventually, this engine gets put to the side until the Carrera GT is created. The engine finds its way into the road car in some kind of race car for the road. They are one of the most snappy and aggressive engines ever put in a supercar.

Hope and Aspiration

... Natural aspiration that is. These motors are beautiful 10 cylinder orchestras that make a sound you only hear from the heavens. I swear it’s that good. No YouTube video —no matter how high quality your headphones are — will ever do this car justice. The current crop of hypercars can’t even come close to doing what this car does to the hairs on the back of your neck. Its nonturbo 8,400rpm redline is incredible.

Manual Transmission w/ Carbon Clutch

This car didn’t just have a manual transmission. It had a manual transmission made of silicon carbide. They took a lot of skill to drive as well. Amateurs would cook these things to the tune of 5 figures for a replacement part. You couldn’t just jump in and drive it which made it a drivers car. Companies are not making cars that require real skill to drive anymore!

Traction Control was a Joke

Turn it off and you’re probably going into a wall. Leave it on and you’re probably going to come pretty close to the wall anyway. The mid-2000s were kind of the last hurrah before cars got easy to drive. This car makes you feel like you’re in a 70s 911 on space-grade steroids. The rear tires would light up regardless of whether or not you had TC on. Watching someone who can slide one of these cars is an exercise in humility.

Dark Horse of an Era

In recent times the Carrera GT has got a bad wrap by the media and enthusiasts who don’t quite understand it. The reason why the Carrera GT will never be made again is that it’s the last of a line of cars that required the driver to have the skill to drive fast. Lawsuits and legislation ultimately determine what kind of cars we get and a reputation for building “dangerous” cars is never good for business. Expect prices to skyrocket in the next 10-20 years!
