Two Porsche Taycan Cross Turismos recently achieved a remarkable feat, climbing from 717.8 feet below sea level to the summit of Tibet's Hongtu Daban.

In a groundbreaking achievement, two Porsche Taycan 4 Cross Turismos clinched a Guinness World Record by conquering the greatest altitude change in an electric car. These vehicles ascended from a staggering 717.8 feet below sea level to the summit of Hongtu Daban in Tibet, soaring to a breathtaking 17,569 feet above sea level. This extraordinary journey began at Ayding Lake in China's Xinjiang province, a place known for its extreme low elevation.
Challenging Terrain
Over the course of ten days, these intrepid Taycans tackled more than just sealed roads. They navigated through rugged off-roading areas, including the Tomur Grand Canyon, Tarim Poplar Forest, Sansha Desert Highway, Dokuo-Lunque Highway, and the G219 National Highway. The adventure was anything but ordinary, with the cars enduring diverse weather conditions, from scorching heat to freezing cold.
Charging Challenges
As these electric vehicles ventured into remote regions, they faced the challenge of finding charging stations. In the Kunlun and Tianshan mountains, a 472-mile stretch of challenging terrain, the Taycans had to rely on a support truck powered by EnjoyElec for charging. However, the Taycan's regenerative capabilities came to the rescue on downhill stretches, recuperating up to 275 kW of energy.
Record-Breaking Ascent
Starting 717.8 feet below sea level and reaching 17,569 feet above, the Taycans achieved an astonishing altitude change of 18,287 feet. Porsche noted that the Gravel Mode of the Cross Turismo and its brake regeneration system played pivotal roles in this remarkable feat, enhancing driving performance and range.
