Better Than the Real Thing?

Design has long been one of Porsche's strong suits, in spite of some poking fun at the automaker for adhering to a more evolutionary approach with iconic models like the 911. But as we often see, there's always room for improvement, and we dare say that automotive designer Gary Lin's idea of what a Porsche crossover should look like might just be better than the real thing.

Clean Design

These particular renderings were completed for the aspiring automotive designer's thesis, and by the looks of things, he's got a bright future ahead of him. While Porsche's existing crossovers - like the Cayenne and Macan - are certainly great-looking vehicles, there's something undeniably clean and cool about this particular design.

Screaming Porsche

Lin's design seems to have drawn some influence from the brand new Taycan Cross Turismo as well, giving it more of a traditional crossover look than that low-slung wagon, however. Either way, both are rather sleek with sloping lines and sporty overall aesthetics that scream Porsche.

On-Road Performer

To us, there's nothing wrong with making a roomy crossover that isn't destined to be taken off-road, as much as Porsche tried to make the Taycan Cross Turismo look like a rugged off-road vehicle. And that's more the idea here - this concept looks like a higher-riding Porsche sports car, not some mud-slinging pretender.

Easily Identifiable

Regardless, there are some obvious design influences here, including quite a few from the 911's illustrious history, the maligned 968, and the Panamera, to name a few. And while the design may be completely unique from any Porsche we've seen, it's still easily identifiable as such.

Coming Soon?

Overall, Lin's theoretical crossover is certainly an attractive piece, and one that we'd love to see come to fruition. If nothing else, however, we imagine that the young designer has a bright future ahead of him, and who knows - we might just be driving a vehicle designed by him at some point in the next few years.
