What Is a GTY3?

If you wanted to build your own idea of a car that could very easily be mistaken for a factory Porsche, what would it look like? For Rennlist forum member bmwtye, it would be this - something he calls the GTY3.

Zero Compromises

So what the heck is a GTY3, you ask? Well, we'll let bmwtye explain. "A play on the car, G 'T' 3 and my name Ty3 (3 being backward E). I want to create something that looks like it came from Porsche if Porsche allowed you to dip into their parts bins and have unlimited customization options. OEM quality, fit, and finish. No compromises, shortcuts or hacking anything up. No exceptions."

Cup Inspiration

Thus, it all started with a 2007 GT3 that bmwtye had owned for around 5 years at the time. It was a nice car no doubt, but he wanted a little more. "The 997.2 GT3 Cup served as an inspiration of what I wanted to achieve exterior wise with the car. A bit more aggressive, but not over the top," bmwtye explained.

Parts Collecting

Thus, the teardown and parts collecting began. "After scouring the GT3 Cup Parts catalog, I slowly collected all the parts necessary for the change, taking advantage of cup teams dumping their spares as they moved to the 991 platform," bmwtye said. "The hardest part was refraining from beginning the project until I had everything I needed. I didn't want to do things piece by piece, but rather wait until I could do the exterior transformation all at once."

Perfect Match

One of the most important steps in this process was finding a paint shop that could perfectly match his silver car's existing hue. Once that was completed, bmwtye was able to start assembling the exterior of his dream ride.

Step One

The exterior transformation of this Porsche was undoubtedly dramatic. But of course, this wasn't the end of the build by any means. The next step was to tackle the interior.

Running Wild

And like the outside, the inside was privy to big changes. "I made the decision to take on the task of completely changing the interior," bmwtye said. "The vision I had involved carbon fiber, Alcantara, and yellow deviated stitching. Again, the plan would be to stick to the theme of OEM quality, look, and feel. I wanted to create an interior that could actually come from Porsche if they let you run wild with options."

Total Transformation

This was a tedious process that involved a ton of parts, but it turned out incredible. But bmwtye was also concerned with safety, so he went with an OEM Clubsport roll bar and GT2 bucket seats to keep him in one piece.

Performance Enhancements

The final piece of the puzzle, of course, was performance. Along with a Sharkwerks exhaust and a tune, bmwtye also installed a host of suspension mods designed to help this GT3 carve up corners even better than it did stock.

Justice Is Served

Since then, this incredibly detailed Porsche build has undergone even more mods and changes. And this thread is certainly worth checking out in its entirety. Mainly because there's no way we can do it justice in this space!
