Rennlister Builds Amazing Porsche 911 RSR Tribute Cars
Watching these vintage Porsche 911s transform into incredibly detailed RSR tributes is truly a satisfying endeavor.
Stunning Recreations
We've seen an impressive run on specialty shops transforming classic Porsche 911s into restomods in recent years. At this point, everyone's familiar with the amazing builds from places like Singer and Emory Motorsports. But as we found in this incredible thread, Rennlist member omgjon is building some pretty incredible retro/modern cars himself.

Second Rodeo
As you might imagine, omgjon has a bit of experience with this sort of work. "I've been on Ferrarichat for the last 10 years posting photos of my Ferrari Dino restorations," he said. "I decided I needed a change of pace, so I bought two 1973 911Ts to do RSR tributes. I'm going to keep one and sell one. I've always owned a 911 since 1970, so I love Porches but have never done a restoration on one."

Back to a Shell
It didn't take long to realize that omgjon's builds were going to be pretty spectacular, given the fact that his first step was to strip these cars down to the shell and media blast them.

Down to Basics
And omgjon's parts list for these builds sounded pretty incredible, too. "RSR steel flares, fiberglass front, and rear bumper, ducktail, aluminum hood, center fill fuel tank. I'm thinking Braid wheels with Michelin TB tires. With 15" wheels, I'm thinking 930 calipers, Bilstein struts, Bilstein sport shocks front and rear. I want to use a later aluminum trailing arm, but don't know if they are interchangeable. Rothsport 3.5 motor about 350HP, Wevo shifter, an SC 915 gearbox. That's the basics."

Long Process
This sort of tedious bodywork takes time, of course. So while omgjon was getting both cars as straight as arrows, he was also ordering all the goodies he needed, plus rebuilding/refinishing all the stock stuff that he planned on keeping.

Body Work
Once the hard stuff was wrapped up, omgjon proceeded to work on adding reinforcements to the body, followed by those massive fender flares. Once all of this was completed, he began assembling and installing the suspension and brake components.

Zero Glass
Perhaps our favorite thing about this build, however, is the fact that omgjon refused to use any fiberglass body parts. He even went so far as to massage the original front bumper into an RSR clone rather than opting for 'glass.

Iconic Livery
After a period of indecision in terms of what colors to paint his beautiful rides, omgjon landed on a pair of classic combos. For the first, perhaps the most iconic livery ever - Gulf Blue and orange. The other, a tribute to the 917 "hippie car."

Scratch Redo
As much as we obviously love the Gulf theme on any car, we couldn't help but fall head over heels for the hippie theme. Especially since omgjon and a pal sat down and completely redid the design specifically for the classic 911.

Final Touches
After many hours of labor, omgjon's amazing Gulf RSR tribute 911 was complete and looking magazine cover ready. The hippie car and a third(!) build are nearly finished. So be sure and head over here to watch all of these incredibly detailed builds come to life!
