Porsche heaven

With parking lots and paddocks alike full of Porsches and guests, this triennial event was something to be seen. Rennsport Reunion 6 became something akin to a sort of Disneyland for Porsche enthusiasts with the automaker itself on hand to facilitate things. For four full days, the rolling hills of Salinas hosted a record 81,550 spectator turnout for the world's largest Porsche festival. This year's event broke the 60,000 guest record that was set with the Rennsport event that took place in 2015.

Where's my tin foil hat?

Everywhere you looked, there were spectacular views of various models spanning decades upon decades of automotive performance history. Many of us know that at this event, Porsche chose to debut the GT2-RS based 935 to coincide with the brand celebrating their 70th anniversary. Not to go too far off course here, I still wonder how is it that all 77 units of the 935 were spoken for before the car was unveiled to the world?!

Looking out for number 1

The original "No. 1"  356 Roadster was on display and even took things a step further by venturing onto the track with none other than Dr. Wolfgang Porsche. “Every Porsche car has a soul, and Rennsport has its own soul thanks to the emotional response of enthusiasts who come from around the world,” said Klaus Zellmer, president, and CEO of Porsche Cars North America.

It's a celebration

“We are deeply grateful to the champion drivers and brilliant engineers behind more than 30,000 Porsche motorsports victories so far – who help us develop on the track what we bring to the street.

“Celebrating this heritage together with the extended Porsche family of fans made Rennsport Reunion VI the biggest and best yet, and the most thrilling.”

Another debut

Another car that premiered at the event was the U.S. entrance of the 911 Speedster Concept that is based on the 991 but also offers a preview of possible new equipment options from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. The theme of this year was “Marque of Champions” which highlighted the drivers and race cars that contributed to the automaker's success over the years.

Meet greatness

The event also featured on stage interviews, concerts, autograph sessions, and meet and greets in the paddock with champion drivers such as Hurley Haywood, Derek Bell, and Jacky Ickx, and 919 Hybrid Evo driver Timo Bernhard.
