Next Level

RUF has been in the business of building cool custom Porsche vehicles for many years now, and it continues to perfect that formula with vehicles both new and old. Its latest effort is this - the RCT Evo, which is based on the 964-gen 911. And while it may retain much of that model's beloved design features, it's far, far nicer than a basic, stock example in pretty much every aspect.

No Two Alike

The original RCT debuted way back in 1990, so the Evo is quite literally an evolution of that model. Buyers start by choosing between a regular body style, widebody, or carbon fiber panels, which RUF says is obviously lighter and more aerodynamic. From there, things like color options are basically unlimited, as RUF likes to say that no two RCTs are exactly alike.

Air-Cooled Power

The RCT Evo's powerplant is of course an air-cooled flat-six, in this case, a 3.6-liter mill that produces 425 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, which is backed up by a six-speed manual transmission. Given how lightweight these cars are, that should make the RCT Evo plenty spritely in every possible way.

Unlimited Options

Interior options are similarly almost unlimited in terms of patterns, materials, and colors. This particular car has a nice, light tan cabin with diamond stitching on the seats, but the sky is pretty much the limit here. Customers can also opt for an integrated roll cage in addition to a plethora of other options.

Modern Upgrades

Additional options include more modern Porsche parts like carbon-ceramic brakes and center lock wheels, Regardless, compared to a lot of other restomod Porsche builds out there, the RCT Evo is an exercise in simplicity, one that doesn't try to reinvent the wheel. And that's a good thing considering how good the 964 is, to begin with.

High Price Tag

Of course, none of this excellence comes cheaply, but it never does in the world of Restomod 911s. The RUF CTR starts out at €350,000, or roughly $432,000 U.S., and obviously goes up from there. That price doesn't include the cost of a donor car, either, so that must be factored in as well.

Turn It Up

Regardless, the RUF RCT continues to be a popular option thanks to its winning formula. "While the technology has evolved since 1990, the formula for a fun car has not," said Estonia Ruf of RUF Automobile. "The RCT takes that formula and turns up the dial."
