Dare to be Different

There are car dealers on every corner, and it often makes us wonder - why don't most try to do something a bit different to stand out? That's certainly the case at Porsche Santa Clarita, a Galpin dealer that picked the absolute worst time in history to open - in March, right in the middle of the pandemic. Regardless of these challenges and the many rules Porsche dictates for its dealers, Santa Clarita was able to make its shiny new showroom a bit different than most.

Strict Rules

General Manager Joe Allis worked closely with Galpin Motors to design the dealership, a process that isn't quite as simple as doing whatever he wanted. "Everything that you see in the dealership is dictated by Porsche corporate - Germany determines what, how, when," Allis explained to The Signal. Regardless, Allis was able to add a few touches that really set Porsche Santa Clarita apart.

More Than Cars

"Every single Porsche you see on the road is bespoken from front to back from interior to trim colors," Allis said. "There's no standard Porsche builds...(which), at the end of the day, is part of what makes your car unique." But at this dealer, it's about much more than just the cars they sell.

Shop and Dine

Those visiting the dealer can also grab a bite to eat at the Boxenstopp Restaurant, which features both American and German food, fittingly. There's also a Porsche Design Boutique, which makes it the only Porsche dealer in California to sell the entire Porsche Design Collection, along with the usual variety of Porsche Driver's Selection merchandise.

Amazing Views

Those that want to watch their Porsche being worked on can do so easily thanks to large glass windows separating the seating area from the service area. And if they get tired of looking at their own car, they can check out Wunderground - where visitors can view the only exclusive Porsche family-approved heritage center in the country through the glass floor of the showroom.

All About Lifestyle

Additionally, the dealership contains an interactive learning center and conference room space that's available to the community. And it all boils down to one simple concept. "We wanted to build a facility that was indicative of the lifestyle," Allis said. "Porsche is a lifestyle, it's not just the car that you drive…and how people embrace that lifestyle is the unique part."

Warm Reception

So far, despite the challenges it's facing in a pandemic, the plan seems to be paying off. "We have now exceeded the manufacturer's forecast of what we're going to do by roughly 140%, so we're doing very, very well, and the community has been nothing but supportive, even if it's to come in just to see what we built here," Allis said.
