Decades of Fast Car Experience

Dieter Heinz is the owner of HG Motorsports and the type of guy you hope you never have to race against. With a family history spanning several decades, he has forgotten more about cars than most enthusiasts amass in a life time. Fortunately for us, he’s a good friend and was willing to talk to me about what makes his shop one of the most sought after places to tune a car. Here are six more reasons you should check out HG!

Owner & Racer

Racing as a shop owner means you get to try all the stuff the rest of us just argue about over the internet. As a result of this, Dieter has piled up quite the resume on the race track: NASA TT championships in GT-Rs, undefeated streaks in Redline Time Attack, and 5 consecutive Super Lap Battle championships. Those are just a few of his credentials. Not many people can lay claim to this type of dominance across that many series!

Porsche Specialist

Over the last few years HG Motorsports have turned their attention towards tuning Porsche’s for customers and racers alike. From general maintenance to specialty builds, there is nothing these guys can’t do. All of that track time means they understand how to blend elements of race car with weekend warrior, or go all out race car on a build. They know what parts work and refuse to sell anything that doesn’t. This tough standard mirrors Porsche’s own philosophy.

Track Side Support

Driver coaching and track side support aren’t things most shops do, but this is what makes HG a cut above. Customers spend $20,000 to $50,000 or mote on parts, so it’s paramount that they get the most out of them. Dieter likes to start off by “modding the car less and learning the car more.” This ensures the car goes home in one piece and the customers get the most out of their build. Nothing would be worse than writing a check and totaling your baby on her first lap. HG Motorsports cares about the people they work with, and wants to assist them to the fullest in their pursuit of speed.

Knowledge

You know what I like more than horsepower? Knowledge. HG Motorsport has literally built every brand and race discipline of car a customer could throw at them: EVOs, Subarus, GT-Rs, Mercedes, BMWs, Porsches, and Audis. Not only have they modified all of these brands, but they have done it for a wide variety of purposes. Having such a range of understanding means they know what works on a 997 GT3 compared to a 991 GT3 and where the time off your laps comes from. Dieter can tell you exactly what the gain was from switching suspension brands, or where your money will be most effective in cutting lap times. This is really what you pay for when you have an expert tuner shop build your car.

Factory Race Cars

After modifying street cars to go racing, the company learned the value of putting money and mods into Porsche’s famous Cup Cars. When I asked how close a heavily modified 911 could get to the factory race car, the result was shocking: 10-15 seconds on average, and 5 seconds at best, on the stickiest tires available. I was even shocked to learn that Cup Cars can hold their value when crashed, even compared to a wrecked GT3 RS. HG will seek to expand operations in the coming years to include service for customers who can afford to campaign a factory race car. This really sets them apart from most run of the mill Porsche tuning shops.

The Future of HG Motorsports

While they may have only just started getting into the Porsche market, I would not bet against a company like HG that has the credentials and trophies to back up their work. Winning consistently is a combination of hard work, determination, and experience, which seem to be traits Dieter exploits for every car he builds. With all the success they have had in the past, it will be interesting to see what’s in store for the future of HG Motorsport.
