D. L. S.

It stands for Dynamics and Lightweight Study. We've been teased with the newest masterpiece of automotive design and engineering from Singer for months now. But it has finally shown its face in real life. We have come to expect nothing but perfection from Singer and that is why this reimagined 964 has been so highly anticipated. Let's now take a look at just what makes the DLS so special.

In the Flesh

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is like an overload of automotive awesomeness over a short period of time. It takes something truly outstanding to grab as much of the attention at Goodwood as Singer's DLS has. The first public appearance of the new Singer product has been a successful showing.

Perfect Partnership

The aerodynamic features of the DLS are just as impressive as the engine. Having teamed up with the Williams racing team for the project, it is no surprise to see that Singer Porsches are now just as meticulous and precise in performance as they have been in craftsmanship. The 4.0-liter flat-six engine is capable of producing 500 HP at 9,000 RPM. Perhaps the most eye-catching feature of the DLS is the innovative air intakes inhaling through the quarter windows, feeding into the naturally aspirated motor.

Form and Function

While all the new bodywork specially designed for the DLS certainly seem cool to most people, every piece of carbon fiber employed on this automobile serves an essential function to aid its performance by redirecting air to create optimal downforce in every end.

Everything is Important

You will not find a single article anywhere on the DLS that has not been obsessed over by the guys at Singer. They have created a drool-worthy piece of automotive art. The interior panels, the cool Recaro seats, the roll bar, and the steering wheel all leave you in awe of this magnificent machine. Pay closer attention and you will find the beautiful hand-made instrument gauges and the drilled pedals made of carbon fiber and titanium.

Automotive Sculpture

You might have seen the famous renderings of the floating engine and its wing-like air intake ducts, but to see the unit in reality, and witness the unbelievable craftsmanship first hand is a different level of cool.

Keeping up with the Power

The forged magnesium 18-inch wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires to bring the power to the ground. The lightweight suspension and braking systems have been engineered by Williams, and the overall chassis has been upgraded and reinforced as well to match the performance capabilities.

Years in the Making

Singer is known to strive for greatness, but the DLS takes the company to new heights. The years of hard work put into this project has paid off and they are certainly proud of the finished product. According to Singer founder and creative director Rob Dickinson, "the Dynamics and Lightweight Study has been years in the making." He sees the DLS as a great representative of their philosophy to celebrate the past while acknowledging the future.

It's Coming Home

The Singer's appearance at Goodwood may have been its first, but it won't be the last. The California-based builder will be bringing the car to display at Monterey Car Week in August. So worry not. If you missed Goodwood, you still have a chance to see it in person in California.

Too Perfect?

The Singer DLS has to be the ultimate 'restomod' Porsche 911 built to date. It captures the imagination of many in a world where we see the demand for classic 911s rise every day. Interestingly, however, the DLS will likely be more exclusive than virtually any other 911 with a price tag set at $1.8 million. Which sadly means that as amazing as a piece of engineering and design as it is, chances are, it won't be too often that DLS Singers will be driven to their full potential.
