Subtle 997 Turbo Shreds Quarter Mile in 9-Seconds

It doesn't take much to turn a 997-gen Porsche 911 Turbo into a total speed demon, as we can clearly see from this beautiful example.

Drag Strip Terror

The 997 Turbo has enjoyed quite the boom in popularity recently. Mainly because, well, it's an incredible performance bargain at its current pricing. And with a little work, you can transform these awesome cars into total drag strip terrors. This fact is on full display with Anthony Taylor's 997 911, recently featured over at Lowered Standards

Falling in Love

Taylor didn't pick up his '07 Turbo recently, however. He originally purchased this car as a replacement for his BMW M3 a full 9 years ago. And he was actually in the market for a 996 GT2 at the time, but he immediately fell in love as soon as he test drove the Turbo.

Wide-Ranging Goals

At the time, this car had a mere 1,100 miles on the clock, so it was essentially brand new. Taylor wanted to build something fast, of course, but also a car that could idle in traffic and even hit up the grocery store on the weekend. But these are all things that the 997 Turbo is quite good at, of course.

Unique Goals

Taylor's performance goal for the car was different than most. He wanted the Porsche to do 60-130 miles per hour in 5-seconds. That's a pretty lofty goal, of course, one that cars like the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport have achieved. Suffice to say, he pulled it off with a scorching 5.08-second run.

Doesn't Take Much

Not only that, but this 997 911 has also cracked the elusive 9-second barrier in the quarter-mile. Getting there wasn't terribly difficult, either. The Porsche has received upgraded GT30R turbochargers, SPI exhaust and intercoolers, and a Syvecs ECU. And that's mostly it. Now, his menacing ride cranks out 835 hp and 699 lb-ft of torque at the wheels.

Looks That Kill

Taylor also upgraded his Porsche in the looks department with a few key additions. They include a Techart front lip and side skirts, FVD LED taillights, and H&R lowering springs. The whole thing rolls on 19-inch HRE 597R wheels wrapped in Toyo R888R tires measuring 235/35 up front and 305/30 in the rear.

Proper Warning

The inside of Taylor's 911 remains pretty much 100% stock, at least for now. He does have access to his performance box in here, as well as a Valentine One radar detector. Which is probably a good idea considering how fast this Porsche gains speed.

Total Package

The really nice thing about Taylor's Switzer Flex-Fuel E911 Package is that it comes as a complete kit. So you don't have to piece together a bunch of random parts and hope that it all works harmoniously together. The setup will obviously run on regular pump gas but feeding it E85 extracts the most power.

Future Plans

Taylor is clearly happy with his car but still has plans for some upgrades in the future. As of now, he plans on adding new coilovers, a big brake kit, new wheels, and racing seats to his ride. He's also eyeing participating in Shift Sector’s 1/3 and 1/2 mile Airport Runway roll racing events, M-Fest, and some Omega Motorsports gatherings, to name a few.

Proving a Point

Perhaps most importantly, we appreciate Taylor's beautiful 911 for proving our point. The 997 Turbo is a formidable car as is, but it isn't that hard to turn one into a world-beating machine at the track. And that just makes us want one even more than we already do!
