We've been waiting a couple of years for Porsche's electrified wagon, but we might not have to wait much longer.

Mystery Solved

It's been a couple of years now since Porsche first rolled out the Mission E Cross Turismo concept. And the automaker hasn't exactly tried to keep the fact that they're working on a production version of that car secret, as we've already seen numerous mules and prototypes running around clad in camo. The biggest mystery about a possible Taycan Cross Turismo relates to when, exactly, we will actually see the real, finished product. But now, MotorTrend appears to have figured that out, too.

Early Unveiling

According to MT's "well-placed source," the Taycan Cross Turismo is expected to arrive by the middle of 2021 and go on sale as a 2022 model. But we won't have to wait that long to see the production version of the car, as it's reportedly going to be unveiled later this year. And that's a little earlier than anyone initially expected.

Carryover Styling

Then again, Porsche isn't exactly reinventing the wheel here. The Cross Turismo is essentially just a wagon version of the regular Taycan, blending styling elements from its first production EV with those of the concept. MT reports that these carryovers could include the raised ride height and fender flares, though probably not the fog lights.

On-Road Variant

MT also believes that Porsche will also sell a sportier, on-road focused version of the Taycan Cross Turismo, just not in the U.S. While that's somewhat surprising, we can't deny America's thirst for off-road focused vehicles. Otherwise, the model range from the Taycan will carry over to the Cross Turismo, which means we'll also see at least one higher performance Turbo variant.

Power Options

Those powertrains will include the Taycan 4S's two-motor setup with 522 horsepower and a 79-kilowatt-hour battery pack, or 562 horses with the optional 93-kWh pack. The Turbo variants offer up as much as 670 hp with the larger battery. Unfortunately, MT reports that we likely won't see a Sport Turismo Turbo S model and its 750 hp output at all.

Losing Range

As we would imagine, the Taycan Cross Turismo is also expected to lose a little bit of range compared to its sedan brother, mostly because it's going to inevitably weigh a little more. The regular Taycan 4S and Turbo return 203 and 201 miles of range, respectively, so might we see a sub-200 rating for the Cross Turismo?

Pricing Rumors

Buyers may not have to pay much more for the added utility of the Cross Turismo, however. Car & Driver previously reported that the wagon would sticker pretty close to the existing Taycan sedan, which currently starts at $105,000 with a less expensive version on the way. But at least we won't have to wait long to find out if these rumors prove to be true.
