Double Victory

The Taycan might be Porsche's very first production electric vehicle, but it's quite clear that they've hit a walk-off home run with it. The electrified Porsche has received nothing but glowing reviews from everyone that's driven it, and now, the groundbreaking car is also beginning to rack up awards. The most recent come to us from the World Car of the Year Awards, where the Taycan scored a double victory.

Narrowing It Down

The Taycan secured a win as both the World Luxury Car and World Performance Car of the Year after 86 international motor journalists voted and assessed over 50 new cars. The winners were announced during a live online conference by the WCOTY organization.

Uncompromising Car

"This double win in the categories World Performance Car and World Luxury Car underlines what we wanted to achieve when we developed the Taycan," said Michael Steiner, Porsche Member of the Executive Board, Research and Development. "We wanted to create a driver-focused, fully electric sports car that can take on any performance car. At the same time, we focused on uncompromised everyday-usability and contemporary, digital luxury and comfort for four passengers. We are delighted that the WCOTY jury rewarded these efforts."

Big Trophy Case

These latest two awards only add to the Taycan's already impressive wins, which now total over 40 international prizes. Among the year-old model's distinctions, some of the more notable include Car of the Year from Top Gear magazine (UK), Game Changer of the Year from Top Gear magazine (UK), China Green Car of the Year, German Car of the Year, and the innovation prize from Germany's Connect magazine.

Great Incentives

"We are so happy to have been awarded these prizes. They reflect the positive feedback from our customers and are a great incentive for our future work," said Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. "We see ourselves as pioneers of sustainable mobility and have brought an emotive as well as a highly innovative sports car to the road with the Taycan – fully electric and 100 percent Porsche."

More to Come

Chances are, these aren't the last accolades Porsche's Taycan will receive before the year is over. It might have taken the automaker some time to fully realize Ferdinand Porsche's electric dreams, but needless to say, that long wait was most certainly worth it.
