Family Ties

Automotive designer Anders Warming has some pretty notable experience under his belt, having worked for BMW and Mini in different capacities, including serving as Chief of Design for some time. But Warming's latest project was actually a 1967 Porsche 912, a car that his father originally purchased when Warming was rather young. He recently shared the heartwarming story of that car's restoration in this cool video from Porsche.

Dream Come True

This classic Porsche was quite beloved by the Warming family, as Anders' father was a huge car fan yet had never owned one before. "It was like a dream come true," Warming recalled. "I actually remember the first time I drove this car. I couldn't believe I was actually driving a Porsche." His father obviously felt the same way and drove it as much as possible over the years.

Uprooted

Warming's father wound up moving from California to Denmark, while his son moved to Spain and eventually Germany. The Porsche went with him, of course, and father and son were able to enjoy many fond memories in the car, as well as just general conversations about their respective automotive passions. Sadly, the elder Warming passed away in 2016, at which point the son decided to bring the car home to Germany.

Tough Decisions

Warming quickly discovered that the car was in need of some work, both mechanically and cosmetically speaking. "I felt we needed to do this car more justice," he said. "I really enjoyed driving the car because of the emotional attachment. I had to think of a strategy on how I was going to make this work, and I didn't just want to drop it off with anybody."

Taking It Back

Warming didn't have to look too far, however, because he had had several Porsches worked on by Master Tec over the years, and was pleased with the work they do. The team soon decided that they wanted to retain as many original parts as possible, but that they also wanted to return the 912 to its original spec. After a little bit of research, they also discovered that it wasn't originally painted red, but rather Bahama Yellow.

Stunning Result

Thus, the Porsche was stripped down to the bare metal, straightened out, and resprayed its original color. Warming went full bore in his effort, as every single nut and bolt, panel, and part was removed and refinished or replaced. The electronics, drivetrain, and everything else was returned to like-new condition, and the results of that extensive effort are nothing less than stunning.

Paying Homage

Needless to say, Warming was pleased with the final result. "It was a special moment when this car was finished," he said. "It's a different animal now - it really has the soul and character of the car that I bought with my father. For me, this car is an homage to the passion my father always had for cars. But it's also an homage to my passion for cars."
