Throwback: 964 Porsche 911 is Begging to go Off-Roading

This 1990 Porsche 964 has been extensively modified and built into what now is called the Safari RS V2. We came across this rally-inspired off-roader over at Kelly-Moss and we think it's definitely worth a closer look.

Serious Machine

This Safari RS maintains that classic air-cooled look as giant rugged fenders successfully accentuates the original shape this 964 dons underneath. Throw in a hint of the legendary Martini livery and this machine looks the part as a serious performer.  

Legend in the Making

The process begins as the fenders are widened to make way for a lift and larger all-terrain tires. The bumpers and side skirts are also removed to make way for custom fabricated bumpers and upgraded side skirts. 

Prepped and Geared

A view of the complete set up is best seen from above. A high-performance light bar now sits at the nose and a set of rally mud flaps keeps gravel spray to a minimum. The ground clearance allows for great suspension travel while the setup rests on a set Pirelli P-Zero gravel spec Rally tires. 

An Interior Meant for Speed

The interior still maintains most of the essentials from the road going donor that resides underneath it, but as you can see, light switches now take the place where a stereo used to be and a large oversized hand brake lever is now a prominent piece in the interior for drifts around those tight hairpins. 

Built Tough

Aluminum welded bumpers were built to be strong, light, and stylish. Tow hooks are bolted in and LED lights are recessed within to give this Porsche some much-needed toughness and durability.  

Everything You Need

A massive lightbar featuring HID Hella lights are reminiscent of old Porsche Paris-Dakar rally cars. Tow hooks and a steady wench are also involved to make sure the driver has everything they need should things become dicey.
