Big Money Builds

Ever since Singer came around, we've gotten pretty used to the idea of paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for restomod 911s built with an incredible level of attention to detail. But there are other, smaller builders out there in the world doing the same sort of work, oftentimes at even higher prices. One of those is Workshop 5001, a small Los Angeles-based outfit cranking out some killer Porsches.

New Level of Detail

Workshop 5001 undoubtedly does some seriously impressive work, but they've seemingly topped themselves once again. This amazing build, a 1973 911 dubbed Project No. 1, features some of the most amazing level of detail we've ever seen. But with a million-dollar price tag, that's pretty much to be expected.

Add Lightness

This pristine Porsche packs a 3.4-liter flat-six producing 318 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. Which obviously doesn't seem like much in this day and age. But this particular 911 also weighs in at a svelte 2,200 pounds, making it a rather fast and nimble machine.

Driving Experience

And that's the true appeal of an early 911 restomod - they offer up something that we just can't buy in this day and age. Cars are far too heavy and burdened by things like safety equipment and technology today. These vintage Porsche restomods shed all of that in favor of a pure and exciting driving experience.

Old and New

And you can forget about some newfangled automatic transmission because this car has a proper five-speed manual. The rest of the bits underneath are purely modern, however. That includes the same three-way adjustable KW suspension setup that Porsche uses on its race cars.

Right at Home

Up front, the splitter is actually fashioned from a high-density wood called jabrock. This same material is used to build skid plates on F1 and Indy cars. Inside, you'll notice that the stitching and fabrics used are of the utmost quality, but they look right at home inside this vintage Porsche.

Looks are Deceiving

Meshing these many old and new parts and technologies together in one harmonious machine obviously takes a great deal of skill. And Workshop 5001 has that in spades. At first glance, you may not recognize this vintage 911 as being anything unique or special, but it truly is.

Worth It?

Clearly, Workshop 5001's Porsche builds are on an entirely new level, all by themselves. Now, whether they're worth a cool $1 million or not is up for buyers to decide. But we're pretty sure that there are enough folks in the world willing to pony up that kind of cash to keep them in business, at the very least.
