Leichtbau

The word Leichtbau is German for "lightweight," which is what makes this Porsche 911 Turbo S even more special than it already was. According to Harry Whale, a classic car specialist at Silverstone Auctions, where this Porsche is being sold, the Leichtbau is one of the rarest, most-exciting 911s ever made.

1993 Porsche 911 Turbo S Leichtbau

The Leichtbau Porsche comes from an extremely limited edition of 911 Turbo S vehicles. In fact, it's number 51 of 86. Straight out of the factory, it's 40 millimeters lower than any other one from its generation, as well as close to 400 pounds lighter. This lighter on its wheels version is accomplished by using aluminum for the doors, as well as using thinner glass all around. The carpet is also thinner, which sheds a few more pounds off this 911.

Engine and Performance

The heart of this very-special Porsche is a turbocharged 3.3-liter engine, working collaboratively with a G50 five-speed transmission to develop 381 horsepower, which is 61 horsepower more than the non-Leichtbau 1993 Porsche 911 Turbo S.

The Condition

Before dishing out any money for this Porsche, you should know something about its condition. The special Leichtbau has 43,042 original miles on it, and even though it may sound like low mileage, you're not buying a daily driver, you are buying a collector car, which means this is relatively high mileage, especially for the price tag you would be paying. Even though the car looks like it belongs in a museum, it does show some extremely mild stretches on the seats.

How Much and Why?

The question is, how much would it take to own this Porsche? Well, the answer is in this article's title. However, this could be a low-ball estimate, and the price could end up being even more than half a million dollars. There is a reason for this extremely high price tag. Aside from the fact that this is 1 of 86 Porsches ever made, the Leichtbau also features one of six paint jobs, which is this smooth, glossy black. If you don't think this is a good-enough negotiation point, the black leather interior with the tri-tone Recaro seats and steering wheel were only offered with this paint, which means this car is 1 of six Porsches ever made.
