Hefty Price Tag

This 992 Porsche 911 Turbo S features in the photos above was recently imported by a Porsche dealer in Illinois. And while the Turbo S trim has a starting MSRP of $203,500, this truly special example has a price tag of $364,170. Or shall we say 'had,' because it's already been sold!

$99K Paint Option

And as is evident from the title of this slideshow, the Chromaflair paint job takes up around $99,000 of the added options. The very exclusive 'Urban Bamboo' paint option is described by the dealer as "truly something special that needs to be seen in person to be completely appreciated."

Better In Person

In the Instagram post, the dealer admits they tried their best to capture the beautiful color shift as well as they could in the photos, but they still don't quite do it justice. The Chromaflair paint is a multi-layer application that consists of flakes that will change color depending on the direction of the light source and the angle at which it is looked at.

Micrometer Flakes

As is pointed out in the post, these flakes are only 1 micrometer thick. "To create a Chromaflair pigment, a multi-layer interference film is ground into micron-sized flakes. Chromaflair flakes include a center aluminum core layer which is surrounded by a glasslike layer," the dealer writes.

Scientific Precision

Applying the paint is a science in itself. "To maintain the tight color tolerance required by the automotive industry, layer thickness must be controlled within a few atoms." Imagine the precision required to apply an even coat, with a margin of error of a few atoms! Doing so on a flat surface would be a task and half, let alone on the complex surfaces of a Porsche's body panels.

The Most Exclusive

The paint itself is an $86,040 option. But in order to choose it, you'd first need to tick the 'Custom Color' box which instantly adds $12,830. The custom work is done by Porsche's in-house personalization shop, Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. As for the rest of the options that bring up the price tag to $364,170, they include additions such as custom two-tone leather interior, also courtesy of the aforementioned customization shop, and a variety of exterior upgrades, such as the wheels and the carbon roof.
