Big Money, Rare Machine

These days, it certainly isn't uncommon to see million-dollar Porsche sales at pretty much any auction out there. Many rare Porsche-branded machines from the past continue to rise in value, and that list includes the 993-generation Porsche 911 GT2. This particular German-market example is a bit more special than most, and it recently hit the block at Air-Water's Broad Arrow Auctions extravaganza seeking upwards of $2 million from a willing bidder.

Globe Traveler

This Grand Prix White 1996 911 GT2 is an early-production German-market example that's one of just 126 left-hand drive models built in that same model year. It has bounced around the globe since then, landing in Vancouver, BC, Canada, after which it headed to Miami, Florida. Today, it sports just under 30k kilometers, or 18,424 miles, on the clock.

Rare Shade

This 911 GT2 is also one of just 20 finished in its aforementioned shade of Grand Prix White, which was last offered in 1996. It comes with an array of goodies including all of the original paperwork and manuals, the 911 GT2 supplement, and the original tool kit, to boot.

Well Equipped

Inside the cabin, one will find a black leather interior with dark gray seat inserts, Recaro seats with white-painted backs, Guards Red seat belts and door pulls, and plenty of amenities including air conditioning, power windows, and even airbags.

Impressive Power

Power comes from Porsche's twin-turbocharged flat-six M64/60R engine, which pumped out an impressive for the time 430 horsepower. Flowing to the rear wheels, this output - combined with a 300-kilogram weight reduction over the standard model - helped the GT2 reach 60 mph in around four seconds, with a top speed of 187 mph.

Not Quite There

In spite of its rarity, low mileage, and supreme condition, this 911 GT2 didn't quite manage to sell at auction the first go-round, and is now being offered at a slightly reduced price of $1.8 million. It remains to be seen if someone is willing to meet that lofty price tag, but given how special this car is, we don't doubt a deal will be reached in short order.
