Bargain GT

In the world of Porsche, anything with "GT" attached to it usually goes for huge money. This is unfortunate for those that don't have the means to obtain one, as Porsche's GT cars offer up some of the purest and most exhilarating driving experiences on earth. But if you're in the market for a bargain GT car, look no further than the 981 Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder.

Collector's Items

The 981-gen GT4 and Spyder are obviously fantastic driving machines, the most hardcore variants of their breed, and they were built before Porsche began switching over to turbocharged powerplants. They're also great investments, as each was produced in limited quantities - around 2,500 GT4s and 2,400 Spyders were built in total.

Depreciating Assets

These two models are obviously worth buying, but at what cost? Well, the 981 GT4 is trading at lower prices than the Spyder, thanks to the fact that it's a bit more common. But despite their rarity and many positive attributes, both have actually depreciated since their release. The cheapest GT4s can be found for less than $75,000, in fact.

Not Most Cars

Meanwhile, Boxster Spyders can be found for as little as $90,000. Obviously, this sort of depreciation - roughly $25k for the GT4 and $10k for the Spyder - is much less than most cars experience. But these aren't most cars, either. And if you factor in pricey Porsche options, the value only goes up from there.

Performance per Dollar

Both the GT4 and Spyder are blessed with a slightly detuned version of the 3.8-liter naturally-aspirated flat-six present in the 991 911 Carrera S, which produces 385 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque and is exclusively mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Even now, years later, these cars offer up plenty of performance, with 0-60 times in the low four-second range.

Loaded With Goodies

As is the case with all other Porsche GT cars, the GT4 and Spyder are also loaded with various other performance goodies including a limited-slip differential, torque-vectoring, bigger brakes, and an active suspension. They also weigh less than their regular counterparts thanks to a variety of changes, including fabric loops in place of door handles and less sound deadening material.

Proper Bargain

While the newer 718 Cayman GT4 and Spyder offer up more in terms of performance, content, and tech, they also cost close to and north of $100k. Their predecessors offer up nearly as much for quite a bit less, making them proper bargains and nearly sure-fire future collectibles - for now, at least.
