When Luftgekühlt Landed in England with Luft GB

Daily Slideshow: In typical English fashion, the LA-based Luftgekühlt was greeted with rain, overcast sky, and warm tea in the first ever Luft GB. The weather, company, and beautiful cars came together to create the perfect aesthetically pleasing event.

Entropy Can Be A Good Thing

Life often feels like entropy is engulfing everything around you, hurtling you towards disorder and certainly towards destruction. Yet occasionally, when the universe feels the world has endured its fill of the mayhem, it lends a hand and entropy begets negentropy and creates something joyful rather than the chaos that usually prevails.

Bringing Us Together

Often times, this confluence feels wrong, confusing, or underserved, almost as if we're not worthy of the perfection presented before us. But that couldn't be anymore in the wrong. At last year's Luft GB, the universe brought just this confluence into the lives of Bicester Heritage, England.

Other Side of the Pond

The Los Angeles-based Porsche-only event made its way out of the City of Angels last year. Crossing the entire U.S. and the Atlantic, Luftgekühlt landed on the shores of the United Kingdom at Bicester Heritage. In usual UK weather, England greeted the Porsche enthusiast with grey skies, drizzled air, and warm hearts.

The Perfect Day

At first glance, you’d think “that sounds like a terrible day for a classic Porsche event,” and if you're one to look at life only on the surface, I would say you were right. However, there is more to it than that, and this event shows exactly what life has to offer. The best of the best Porsche collectors were all brought together and took what could be called a gloomy day and made it into something amazing.

Perfect Harmony

The drizzle covered the perfectly waxed cars in a blanket of water droplets and little streams of water that flowed along the lines of the greatest sports cars ever made. The water amplified the contours and brought to life cars that were sitting still. Showing every little detail in a perfect harmony of water and metal.

Perfect Light

The grey, cloud-filled skies cast a perfect white light across the British lands and illuminated the water droplets like little magnifying glasses. The cars shined bright on a day that many would be inclined to stay inside on. Yet the crowd was filled and the photographers were happier than a lark with the perfect overcast lighting that the clouds provided.

In Their Element

Seeing such cars in a natural setting outside of the perfection that usually surrounds them brings them back to where they started. The 904 getting its bones wet again reminds us of when they used to fly through the English air at blistering speeds with rooster tails flung out behind like a storm following the calm. They floated across the track, slowing for nothing, not even the waterlogged tarmac.

Conquer the Road Ahead

Porsche was started to be the best. To make the ultimate car for the ultimate roads. Consequently, they ended up making some of the most beautiful cars to grace these lands. In light of this, many Porsches never get to see the roads they were meant for. Events like these bring the cars out to the people they were made for, the petrolheads (since we’re in England) and the racers. Seeing them covered in a misted water blanket reminds us they were meant to be out conquering the roads, regardless of the conditions.

My New Background

The event, the cars, the people, the location, the weather; everything came together to create the perfect atmosphere to be around the perfect cars. Please do yourself a favor and head on over to Speed Hunters to check out all the photos. Your eyes and mind will thank you for the beautiful, almost calming aesthetics. You’ll probably find your next wallpaper image, I know that I did.
