Wrecked to Wicked

If you're looking for build a seriously track-focused Porsche 911, picking up a wrecked car can save you a ton of cash in the long run. And besides, who wants to cut up a pristine car, anyway? That was exactly the idea behind Rennlist member Clay.0 and his 997 build, which turned out absolutely amazing right before our eyes.

Solid Find

"I have a '77 911 that I've tracked a few times, but like every other car guy, I wanted to build a more dedicated track car," Clay.0 explained. "On May 1, I won a 2006 911S with 40,725 miles on it off Copart. After going through everything, I found the car to be in amazing shape, except for the accident-related stuff."

Golden Opportunity

Obviously, the car was missing a few parts and needed some body work. But this also presented Clay.0 with a golden opportunity to build the 911 the way he wanted. And since the car came with a salvage title, it's not like he needed to worry about destroying its value, either.

Work Begins

Bodywork began right away with the removal of the rear quarter. And Clay.0 began collecting various parts, including a pair of fenders and an OEM GT3 front bumper he acquired from a buddy. This process also included picking up all the performance goodies he'd need to make this car reliable on the track.

Keep It Interesting

Clay.0 just kept on collecting good parts, including a decent GT3 RS decklid and wing. He switched between maintenance, mechanical upgrades, and bodywork along the way, presumably just to keep things interesting.

Mad Skills

By now, it was pretty clear that this guy has some serious skills. Especially when you consider the fact that he was doing all this tedious work by himself, in his own garage. And before long, he was stripping out the interior and working on making that race-ready, too.

DIY

Before you knew it, it was time to start painting all of these parts. And you guessed it, Clay.0 handled some of that as well. Well, except for dropping off the shell at a paint shop for completion.

Race and Street

While the car was at paint, Clay.0 had his many various interior bits that were staying wrapped to look like new. The vast majority of the cabin is spartan for weight reduction purposes, of course. But Clay.0 stopped short of making this a full-on racer, maintaining its street-legal status.

Leaving an Impression

By the time this killer project was complete, it quite simply didn't look anything like it did when Clay.0 started. This incredible build is easily one of the more impressive things we've seen in the forums, and we've seen plenty of impressive things.
