Potential Project

Every time a brand new sports car model debuts, it never seems long before somebody wrecks the first one. And now, that's happened to the Taycan, Porsche's first all-electric production vehicle. This particular Turbo model popped up over at Copart, where it's patiently waiting to be sold to the highest bidder. And we bet that at least a few curious folks are going to try and score this potentially sweet rebuild project.

Value Buy?

The damage to this particular Taycan doesn't look too terrible, and it figures to provide someone with a great project at a discounted price. Though we're not sure how discounted, given the immense interest people have in these cars.

Looking Underneath

On the outside, the damage doesn't look too bad, with a busted wheel and the typical front end damage, both of which are easy fixes. But there's apparently more going on underneath. Copart lists the primary damage as being located on the undercarriage, which could be a potentially large problem.

Spotting Clues

The Taycan is currently sitting on bricks, which can't be a great sign. The suspension seems to be sitting rather low, and of course, the battery pack and some other important stuff are located on the bottom of these cars. The rear driver's side wheel is also clearly sitting in the wrong place, so we're curious to know what kind of other damage lies underneath.

How Bad?

On the inside, the airbags have deployed as well. Altogether, it was enough to make State Farm declare the car a total loss, even with its lofty price tag of north of $167,000. If the batteries were punctured, that could add quite a bit of cost to this rebuild project. But we've seen plenty of other cars totaled over undercarriage damage that wasn't too hard to fix, to be fair.

Intriguing Project

Since the car isn't running or driving, there's no way for Copart to determine what sort of mileage there is on the car. But we imagine that it can't be very much, given how new these things are. With a series of options on this particular Taycan, it's an intriguing project. It's just going to take the right person to buy it.

Not Over

It's unclear if the owner of this Taycan Turbo had some trouble handling its insane levels of power, or if they just ran into some bad luck out on the roadway. But we'd bet that the car won't be put out to pasture just yet. With any luck, someone will bring it home, document its rebuild, and we'll see it again soon.
