Porsche: How to Wash and Wax Your Car

There are many products on the market for washing and waxing a car. It's hard to go wrong with the old soap and bucket method, but why not switch it up? A waterless car wash not only saves precious resources, but it's also a great way to get rid of grime, dirt, and similar buildup without scratching the car's surface.

This article applies to the Porsche 928 (1979-1995), 993 (1993-1998), and 997 (2005-2012).

This waterless wash and wax method is ideal if you're short on time, taking just 10 minutes for a full wash and wax in most instances. However, it's also an ideal method for getting your Porsche squeaky clean using a minimal amount of resources and products. The type of wash and wax you use is up to you, although dedicated Porsche owners strongly recommend the Pinnacle brand for its outstanding results and high quality.

Materials Needed

  • Waterless wash (such as Pinnacle Liquid Crystal Waterless Wash with Carnauba)
  • 3-4 gallon bucket
  • Microfiber towels
  • Spray bottle (optional)
  • Foam wax sponge (optional)

Step 1 – Dilute waterless wash if it's concentrated

If you're using the Pinnacle Liquid Crystal Waterless Wash, you probably noticed that it comes in concentrated and ready-to-use forms. Unlike most waterless wash concentrates, which are diluted with 1:3 or 1:4 parts water, the Pinnacle concentrated wash has a 1:32 ratio.

Step 2 – Spray and wipe

Spray or wipe a generous amount of waterless wash directly onto the car's surface, then immediately wipe it clean using a microfiber cloth. You'll want a cloth that's thick enough to effectively remove dirt and grime without an unnecessary drag.

Pro Tip

It's important to always use ample waterless wash to adequately clean your vehicle.

Step 3 – Buff as you go

Completely wipe the area that you're washing clean. Use a second (clean and dry) microfiber cloth to gently buff the surface. Doing so will get rid of any remaining residue while enhancing the glossy appearance.

Step 4 – Wax the car

If your car wash doesn't include a wax, you'll need to apply the wax separately. To do this, move the car into an area with ample shade. Then, apply a small amount of wax onto the surface of your hands (or a foam wax sponge). Cover all surfaces by slowly gliding the wax along the surface, working one panel at a time. When you've waxed the entire car, use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to get rid of any debris and make the car shine.
