This article applies to the Porsche 993 (1993-1998).

For Porsche owners looking for a new sound or more power, an upgraded or aftermarket exhaust system is the right tool for the job. There are remarkably few members in this arena, and with significant price points, it is a big decision on which system to purchase. Picking the right system is very important to your satisfaction and driving pleasure. Getting just the right sound or the right boost of power are the two main features to consider when searching for an exhaust system. Complete bolt-on systems are reviewed here; however, individual components can be purchased piecemeal and a truly custom fitting can be designed. The most popular system by far is the Fabspeed system with Maxflo mufflers.

Fabspeed Maxflo

Price – $4,500

Sound – Deep

Performance – Increases power dramatically

Warranty – Lifetime

The Maxflo is the most popular brand for good reason. It looks and sounds great. It will increase horsepower by at least 30 through the entire RPM range. This system comes with everything needed for full replacement as a true bolt on system. Recommended for the daily driver who wants a more aggressive sound and extra power when needed.

Fabspeed Supercup

Price – $8,000

Sound – Loud

Performance – Drastically increases power

Warranty – Lifetime

Fabspeed quality continues with their version made especially for the 993 turbo. This system works well on the track as it gives quite a loud note. The power increase is significant from the 3-into-1 high-velocity merge collector while the catalytic converter core increases throttle response and horsepower output. Recommended for track as cabin drone has been a chief complaint from this system.

Price – $6,000

Sound – Loud and deep

Performance – Increase in power especially when new headers are used

Warranty – Lifetime

These pipes are loud. They aren't insanely loud to get the police called, but folks in your neighborhood will know when you come and go. The power increase is noticeable, and at higher RPMs (upwards of 4,000) these pipes will make your Porsche sound like a Ferrari. The inside drone is not horrible, but long road trips may become a little tiresome. Recommended for those who want a louder pipe that sounds more like a traditional sports car.
