No one wants their windows to be stuck down, especially in a nice car such as the Porsche 993. Windows that won't come up can cause some worry regarding the potential for theft or damage to the interior. Luckily, troubleshooting this issue is painless. This article outlines the most common ways to fix the problem of stubborn power windows in your 993.

Step 1 – Did a fuse go bad?

One possible problem is a blown or burnt fuse. Locate the fuse box. You then want to inspect the fuse and make sure it is in good working condition. It should be fuse 4 for the electric windows. If you are uncertain if it is good or bad, you can have an electric shop examine the fuse.

If your fuse is good, try the next step.

Step 2 – Do you have a bad relay?

Another potential problem is a bad relay. According to the Porsche essential companion, the power window relay is R22. Locate the relay and have it inspected by either yourself or an electric shop. If it's bad, hopefully after replacing it, your windows will go back to functioning normally.

If both windows fail, then the problem could potentially be a bad relay.

Step 3 – Did a switch go bad?

According to Porsche owners, if the driver side switch goes bad it can break the circuit and cause the passenger switch to not work until the issue is fixed.

Pro Tip

If one switch goes bad, it affects the operation of the other switches. This is true even if the other switches are in good working order.

Step 4 – Is the battery low?

Some Porsche owners have reported issues with their windows when they have a low battery. Is your car not driven often? Does it sit in the garage most of the time? If yes, then you could have a low battery problem causing the window issues. Use a multimeter to test your battery. A fully charged battery should read 12.6 volts.

When it comes time to replacing your battery, some owners opt for OEM while others choose a brand their local auto parts store carries regularly.
