Staggering Result

It's no secret that the prices of old Porsches have skyrocketed in recent years, to the point where occasionally, we come across a sale that truly raises our eyebrows. Today, that car is this - a gorgeous 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo S that hammered for an eye-watering $1.265 million at a recent Bring a Trailer auction, which is a stunning result by anyone's measure.

More Special

Obviously, any 964 911 is special, and this is particularly true of Turbo cars. But this example is also incredibly rare, as it's one of just 17 "Package" cars built with standard Turbo bodywork - all of which were sold in North America. Heck, Porsche only built around 1,493 Turbos in 1994, so it isn't like those grow on trees to begin with.

Special Treatment

With around 93 cars left to be sold, Porsche sent those remaining examples to its Exclusive Department, where they were treated to a round of upgrades. A total of 76 of those cars featured Flachbau bodywork, while the other 17 were sold exclusively in the North American market with standard Turbo headlights and bodywork.

Stunning Example

Among that small group, this particular example is certainly one of the very best, we'd have to assume, finished in stunning, shiny black paint, 18-inch Speedline Cup wheels, and newer Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires, with zero flaws to be found. The same goes for the gorgeous, matching black interior, too.

Power Boost

These cars weren't just about appearance upgrades, however - they were also treated to a round of performance modifications for their 3.6-liter M64/50 flat-six engines, too. Porsche equipped this small back of cars with the X88 power kit, which adds modified cylinder heads and camshafts, altered timing, larger-capacity fuel injectors, and a larger turbocharger and intercooler. That resulted in an output of 380 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque.

Other Changes

That prodigious amount of power flows to the wheels via a five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Additionally, Turbo S models from this era were fitted with a stronger flywheel and clutch compared to the regular Turbo, and a quad-exit exhaust system with modified heat exchangers was also standard on the S.

Worth It?

Obviously, $1.26 million is a lot of money for any car - let alone a 911 that's not exactly what one might call vintage, at least not yet. But if you're going to dish out that kind of dough for a Porsche, why not do it for one of the coolest, rarest, and best looking examples ever conceived?
