Porsche v Ferrari

The latest and greatest Porsche 992 911 Turbo is, like its predecessors, a seriously quick car. Porsche says that the new Turbo will do 0-60 in 2.7 seconds, but we've seen even quicker times out of these performance machines. However, this video from Drag Times aims to find out just how good the 992 Turbo is when compared to Ferrari's latest prancing horse - the F8 Tributo.

Power Brokers

The 992 Turbo offers up a prodigious 640 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque from its flat-six, which in this case must move a bit more weight since this car is a Cabriolet. On the other side, we have the F8 Tributo, which lays down 710 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. But at the end of the day, both cars stack up fairly nicely.

Weight Advantage

The 992 Turbo S drop-top weighs in at 3,790 pounds, while the F8 Tributo tips the scales at a much lighter 3,450 pounds, which would seem like a huge advantage. However, the Porsche also offers the superior traction of all-wheel-drive, while the Ferrari is rear-wheel-drive.

Hooking Up

In this particular showdown, the Ferrari is wearing a set of Toyo R888R tires and is hooking up at a sticky drag strip, however, which somewhat negates that traction advantage. As a result, both cars jump off the line with virtually zero wheelspin each time.

Line 'Em Up

The best individual pass for the Porsche was 10.32 seconds at 135 miles-per-hour, while the Ferrari managed a slightly better 10.2 seconds at 142 mph. Now, the two line up for two (or three, if a tiebreaker is needed) races to see which car is the quickest.

Close Shave

Race number one sees the Porsche leap ahead to an early lead before the F8 pushes past it for the win, with the time slips reading 10.254 seconds versus 10.542. The second race is more of the same, with the Ferrari simply pulling away on the top end to take the win with a 10.259-second pass versus the Porsche's 10.381.

Run It Back

It's an extremely close battle between these two, and it's also quite obvious that the Porsche would win handily on the street, where traction is less abundant. And personally, we'd like to see this race run back with a 911 Turbo Coupe, which is a bit lighter and faster.
