Righting the Ship

As most Porsche fans are well aware, the first-generation Cayenne was truly a savior for the brand. With sales slipping and buyer preferences changing, the automaker knew that it needed to commit the ultimate sin and build an SUV and that unpopular decision (at least among enthusiasts) wound up quite literally righting the ship. However, many aren't fans of the original Cayenne's looks, which is why digital artist The Sketch Monkey set out to create a more attractive version recently.

993 Inspired

The 993-gen 911 is widely considered to be the pinnacle of that iconic model, so what if Porsche had decided to make the Cayenne a bit earlier and incorporate its styling into the SUV? Well, the result may look something like what The Sketch Monkey comes up with here, and we're certainly liking this combination.

Evolutionary Design

As usual, the artist takes a photo of the modern-day version and goes to work digitally altering its looks. While the newest version of the Cayenne Turbo S looks fantastic to us, adding a bit of retro flair to the mix actually works, which is a testament to Porsche's evolutionary design ethos.

Natural Look

TSM points out that the lines of the original Cayenne were a bit "weird," so he seeks to correct that oversight as well. Unlike many other SUVs out there in the modern world, the new Cayenne actually looks natural as a coupe, at least according to him, and it's a far more attractive car than what's offered by other luxury automakers today.

Old and New

Thus, the newest Cayenne makes a better base for this project than the original, which is why he chose to go that route. It's easier to graft the 993 front end on the new SUV and make it look right, and surprisingly, it does. But first, the makeover begins by adding a sweet set of retro 993 911 that looks great.

Impressive Result

The result of this Photoshop redo is a pretty impressive look at what a "new" 993-based Cayenne might look like, and we're definitely digging it. Had Porsche build its first SUV a bit earlier, such a machine might just be a highly sought-after collectible, and even a new version would sell like hotcakes in our humble opinion.
