Enthusiast's Choice

Porsche offers a little bit of something for everyone these days, and that's true not just of the various models it sells, but also the individual range within each model. Case in point - the Cayenne GTS, typically considered the enthusiast's choice, sits neatly in between the base model and the crazy fast Turbo S E-Hybrid. And now, Porsche just pulled the covers off the revised 2021 Cayenne GTS, and there's plenty to like about it.

Big News

The newest Cayenne GTS is available in coupe or standard body styles, but that isn't the biggest story here by far. That distinction goes to what powers the SUV, and that's a proper twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that produces a healthy 453 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque. In a world that's ditching V8s for smaller-displacement engines, this is certainly big news.

Landing in the Middle

The first-generation Cayenne GTS packed a naturally-aspirated V8, while the second-gen downsized to a twin-turbo V6. So this is a somewhat surprising move by Porsche, but clearly a very welcome one. It also places the GTS neatly in between the standard Cayenne with its 335 hp V6 and the Turbo S E-Hybrid, which offers up 670 ponies.

Pretty Quick

Porsche's Tiptronic S automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are also standard equipment. All of that equipment works in harmony to propel the new GTS from 0-60 in 4.2 seconds for the Sport Chrono Package equipped model, or 4.5 seconds without. That's a half-second faster than the last GTS, and if you keep going, it'll reach a top speed of 168 miles-per-hour.

Other Changes

Aside from the new drivetrain, the 2021 GTS brings a host of other changes with it as well. They include a lower stance, re-valved Porsche Active Stability Management (PASM) shocks, and a three-chamber air suspension that is capable of lowering the SUV another inch. It all rolls on standard stain black 21-inch RS Spyder Design wheels that look great.

Rounded Up

Rounding out the 2021 GTS updates are LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), tinted LED taillights, and black front air ducts, tailpipes, rear badges, and window trim. On the inside, you'll find Alcantara covering the sport-seat inserts, doors, armrests, and headliner. Additionally, a slew of black brushed aluminum accents and GTS logos adorn the interior just about everywhere you look.

Worth It

So what does all this goodness cost? Well, the standard Cayenne GTS carries a base price of $108,650, while the coupe will set you back $111,850. That's smack in between the base model ($68,850) and the Turbo S E-Hybrid ($164,550), and just a bit more than the 911 ($97,400). But for a fun, highly utilitarian V8-powered family hauler, it seems like it's worth every penny.
