Old Car, New Update

The all-electric Porsche Taycan isn't exactly old - in fact, it debuted in 2019 for the 2020 model year. However, in the high-tech world of EVs, things move rather quickly, and Porsche doesn't want older Taycan owners to be left by the wayside. Thus, the automaker is rolling out some new updates for the Taycan to help keep it current.

Better Range

Of course, over-the-air updates make these sorts of things possible, and that's precisely what Taycan owners can expect to see soon. Automakers can even make software improvements that help range, which is what's happening with the 2023 model.

Many Benefits

Porsche will begin rolling out these software updates for older Taycan owners on a market-by-market basis and will bring about increased powertrain efficiency, give users an improved version of Porsche Communication Management (PCM) and Porsche Connect, OTA enhancements, and function on-demand capability.

New and Enhanced

Among the many new features owners can expect to see are the ability to determine if the all-wheel drive system is engaged via the energy-flow indicator, while regenerative braking also stays engaged even when the driver switches modes. Improved thermal management also improves charging performance in all sorts of weather conditions.

Other Stuff

Meanwhile, PCM and Porsche Connect get a fresh look with more functions and better voice control capability, while an updated navigation system provides charing locations on the fly. The ParkAssist function has also been enhanced to make it more useful, while the 22 kW onboard charger is now available for retrofits.

Progress

“This campaign will allow our customers to benefit from the continuous further development of the Taycan. We have extensively optimized the model series in almost every respect since 2019,” said Kevin Giek, Vice President Model Line Taycan. "New functions have been added and others have been revised or tweaked to further enhance the customer experience. Following this update, anyone driving a Taycan from early in the car’s production run will be pleasantly surprised by how much has developed on the vehicle side since then."
