Next-Gen Training Tool

Open-wheeled racers have a rich history that dates back over 100 years when we first started seeing them begin to win races. Today, open-wheeled racers are among the fastest in the world, even though the concept doesn't exactly apply very well to road-going vehicles. And while this open-wheeled Porsche race car conceived by designer Jan Bendixen isn't intended to break any speed records, it was created to serve another very important purpose - train the next generation of great race car drivers.

Past and Present

The idea is for this Porsche racer to be used to help train young drivers in the same vein that go-kart racing already does, replacing the Porsche Supercup for those aspiring to one day become the next great Formula One drivers. It's somewhat of a futuristic tribute to some Porsche racers of the past as well, including the old single-seat 804 and 718.

Tiny Racer

Another very important reason Bendixen chose to design a Porsche in this manner is the fact that this is his internship project that was completed at Porsche’s Design Studio in Weissach. While it may be somewhat difficult to determine things like scale from these renderings, Bendixen says that the idea here was to create a “tiny E-Fuel driven formula car for Porsche.”

Enticing Idea

These renderings also show off not only some Porsche design influence from the past, but possibly some future elements as well. Whether or not the minimalistic exterior, designed to be as aerodynamic as possible, makes it to production, well, that remains to be seen. Regardless, it's certainly an enticing idea.

Perfectly Presented

Powered by a four-cylinder Boxer engine, the open-wheel racer features a truly clean design that sits incredibly low to the ground, as one might expect. The black and silver two-tone treatment is truly classic as well and highlights the car's many pleasing aesthetic elements perfectly.

Carbon Neutral

Another important element for any future race car is its powertrain, and in this case, the traditional Boxer four-cylinder would run on Porsche's e-fuel, which is carbon neutral. One would certainly expect to see an electrified powertrain here, but the automaker is determined to make gas cars environmentally friendly as well.

Realistic Racer

Throw in an equally futuristic wheel design, and it's safe to say that Bendixen has a hit on his hands. This theoretical Porsche racer is certainly nice to look at, if nothing else, and we could easily see it flying around the track at an upcoming event, with the next great F1, WRC, or World Endurance Championship driver behind the wheel.
