Porsche 930 911 Turbo Is One Amazingly Well-Kept Widowmaker
Unfairly characterized as dangerous, this 930 Turbo is an amazing example of its breed.
Unfair Reputation?
In its time, the Porsche 930 911 Turbo had a bit of a reputation for being hard to drive. This was, of course, because old-fashioned turbos kick in at higher rpm, providing a dramatic boost of power that caught many drivers off guard. Thus, someone dubbed the 930 Turbo the "widowmaker" long ago, a somewhat unfair nickname that adorns amazing automobiles like this stellar 1989 model that recently sold at auction and was featured at Classic Driver.

Rowdy Ride
The seller certainly played up that reputation, however, photographing this particular Porsche in the rain, where some wouldn't dare drive it. That's somewhat due to the fact that it's a valuable collector's item now, but also because it's packing a rowdy turbocharged 3.3-liter flat-six with 300 horsepower on tap.

Few Flaws
This 930 drop-top has been lovingly preserved, however, and presents in fantastic condition with its classic silver paint and black top with a matching interior. There are virtually no flaws to be found anywhere, just a pristine example of a very special car.

Symphony For the Ages
While some may prefer a coupe over a Cabriolet in terms of performance, dropping the top on this 930 means that you get to listen to that glorious flat-six and its many turbo noises, which is a real treat. And while these cars are still fast even by modern standards, they aren't going to beat most new sports cars in a straight line, so why not just enjoy its mechanical sounds?

Classic Recipe
This particular 930 Turbo is an American example, which is easy to spot thanks to the presence of a third brake light above the iconic whale tail rear spoiler. Throw on a set of timeless Fuchs wheels, and you've got a classic recipe that never gets old, at least to us.

Due Respect
It's impossible not to love the 930, nor to question its unfair reputation as a dangerous car that's ready to careen off the road at any given moment. After all, back in the day, cars had to be respected when driven near their limits, and that's all the iconic 930 Turbo asks of us.
