Oddly Satisfying

Porsche's all-new, all-electric Taycan is obviously packed with some serious cutting edge technology. So it should come as no surprise that building the exciting new model from scratch is also an incredibly complicated process. Now, Porsche has given us a detailed, step-by-step look at how it assembles the Taycan, from start to finish, in this oddly satisfying video.

Amazing Facility

Taycan production takes place in Porsche's brand new factory in Zuffenhausen, Germany, a place they call the "factory of the future." This incredible facility was built in just four years, and yet the production of the Taycan started last month. Even more impressively, it has zero environmental impact, according to Porsche.

Environmentally Friendly

To achieve this feat, the Zuffenhausen facility generates heat and electricity using renewable resources. Every machine in the factory is powered by electricity, including logistics vehicles. Watching all of these machines work in unison with actual humans is quite mesmerizing to watch, a process that begins with the body assembly.

Working in Tandem

Once panels are stamped onto the car, a series of employees go over the body to check for defects and perfect the surface. After this process is complete, each Taycan can head over for a dip in a giant pool before the painting process can begin.

Going for a Dip

Taycan bodies then receive a coat of primer before they head into the paint booth. This ensures adhesion to the car's panels, an automotive process that's been in place essentially as long as the auto has existed.

Painting Process

Once in the paint booth, a series of robots lay down perfect layers of paint onto each Taycan body. In between coats, giant brushes appear to polish or rough up the surface before another is put down. Again, this ensures that the layers stick.

Consistently Perfect

Body and paintwork have long been something left to the professionals, but robots have helped perfect the process. While humans can make errors like overspray that require more work, these robots ensure a perfect and consistent process, over and over again.

Working Together

While the Taycan bodies are being finished, workers assemble their electric drivetrains. Again, some of this work is completed by machines, while other steps are done by actual workers. Teaming up ensures that there's always an extra set of eyes on the product in case there's a misstep along the way.

Bring It Together

Once the drivetrain and suspension components are installed on the chassis, they're mated with the Taycan's body. Giant robots complete all of these tasks, including one big "flat bed" that wheels the chassis over to the body before its lifted and secured in place.

Porsche Perfection

Once the cars are completely assembled, they're tested by engineers. And on the way out, a special group of people inspects each car to ensure it's perfect. It's a truly fascinating process to watch, and one that only solidifies the mantra "Porsche Perfection" even further.
