Porsche Power

Most are well aware of the deep connections shared between Volkswagen and Porsche over the years, a relationship that is essentially as old as any in this particular industry. As such, Volkswagens powered by Porsche engines have also been a thing for some time, but few are as cool as this ultra-green VW van recently featured by Traxion.

Wild Ride

Owned by the folks at Fanatec - a sim racing equipment manufacturer located in Munich, Germany - this particular van isn't just some showpiece - it was built to go fast around the track. And that's precisely where it was on this particular day, participating in an open-track event at the 24 Hours of Spa, where Fanatec was giving eager fans one wild ride.

Tell-Tale Signs

Aside from the blazing green paint and the unmistakeable sound of a flat-six emanating from its tailpipes, there are some signs that this is no ordinary VW van, including its dual center-exit exhaust tips and Michelin Cup tires. However, it's what's under the "hood" that's the real story here.

Direct Fit

That is a flat-six lifted from a Porsche 911, which cranks out a reported 650 horsepower thanks to a host of modifications. It's mated to a 911 gearbox as well, along with the entire rear sub-assembly and suspension, meaning that this is essentially just a Porsche 911 van of sorts.

Room for Five

That makes for one heck of a fun ride at the track, as well as one that can accommodate up to four passengers, in addition to the driver, thanks to the fact that the interior has been redone with the addition of four racing buckets. The driver sits front and center - just like someone in a McLaren F1 - while everyone gets racing harnesses for safety.

Why Not?

When asked why he would build such a thing, Fanatec CEO Thomas Jackermeier simply replied "Why not? At the end of the day, it's something really mad. A Porsche 911 Turbo-engined 650 horsepower van. It’s fun, and that’s really what we’re all about."
