Artistic Expression

Art cars have been a thing for a very long time, and we'd wager that more Porsches have transformed into rolling works of art than any other brand. The latest example of this phenomenon is this - a 1989 911 Carrera that recently crossed the block at Bring a Trailer, racking up a significant sum of $135,000 in the process.

One of a Kind

This particular art car was painted by Yves Thibeault under guidance from artist Jean-Pierre Lafrance in cooperation with the Musée National des Beaux-Arts du Québec as number two in a series of Porsches built for the Art Cars Project. Needless to say, it's truly one of a kind.

Real Masterpiece

Thibeault laid down the custom oil-based paintwork using a wide variety of mediums including finger paint, spray paint, airbrushing, hand brushing, markers, and sanding to complete the work, which was designed by Lafrance. The mixture of bright colors over a white base creates a truly eye-catching combination, which has been dubbed "Masterpiece II."

Well Kept

Aside from the incredibly artistic exterior, this 911 is essentially a very nice and well-kept example of its breed. The white 16-inch Fuchs wheels have been treated to custom-painted center caps, and are wrapped with Dunlop SP Sport 5000 tires, while the Mahogany leather interior is in very nice condition as well.

Sweet Sounds

The odometer shows 114k miles, though actual mileage is unknown. Regardless, the car's air-cooled 3.2-liter flat-six powerplant is a beacon of reliability, as well as a seriously sweet-sounding powerplant. Performance is solid as well, as this engine was originally rated to produce 217 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque when new.

Positive Attributes

That power flows to the rear wheels via Porsche's legendary G50 five-speed manual transmission, which makes it even more enjoyable (and reliable). Those positive attributes only make this already desirable car that much more desirable, as we can see from the auction result.

Red Hot

The first art car from this collection managed to garner a mere $72k at auction, which this example nearly doubled. Whether that's a product of increased interest in this collection or just the scorching hot market, in general, is unclear, but we'd wager that both played a hand in this car's selling price.
