Dream Job

It's no secret that Porsche makes some of the finest driving machines on earth, which is precisely why we enjoy driving them on, well, great roads. There's just something exhilarating about carving up a curvy piece of tarmac, sawing away at the steering wheel and listening to an eager powerplant sing its song at higher RPMs, after all. And that's precisely what inspired Stefan Bogner of Curves magazine to spend his year checking out some of the finest driving roads the world has to offer.

Brand Journey

From the primeval forest of Malaysia to the fjord landscape of Norway, the beautiful beaches, turbulent cities, and dense jungle of Southeast Asia, and the islands and peninsulas between the Indian and Pacific oceans, Bogner was able to log miles on some of the most beautiful places on earth - and he documented the entire thing in picture form, along with his own words describing the epic journey.

Lust for Life

You can certainly feel the writer's passion for both Porsche and driving itself after he spent some time in Malaysia. “As I was trundling down a narrow asphalt track into the Southeast Asian rainforest behind a 718 Spyder, this moment seemed strangely familiar to me,” Bogner recalls. It was the feeling of joy. “Radiating joy. And lust for life. Waiting to see what would come in the next breath.”

Don't Rush It

The same goes for Norway and its varied climates and scenery. "The natural challenges on a route are what make a journey exciting and diverse for us," Bogner said. "Climbing the mountains via steep passes, following a course that’s wild and bold, and enjoying fantastic landscapes. Norway is a country for advanced, adventurous drivers. For those with wanderlust. For travelers with real stamina. Sometimes it’s bursting with life and filled with events and action - and then you’re back to the slow-rolling colors, landscapes, and nature running on heavy-rotation repeat. Slow-motion sightseeing is what we named it. You can’t rush these kilometers upon kilometers - you have to be patient."

Homecoming

After spending time there in the Macan GTS, our writer moved on to east Germany - a place that Porsche is more than a little familiar with, giving this drive more of a hometown feel. However, in this part of the country, it's sparsely populated as well, which means little traffic to deal with on some truly great roads.

Upper Limits

"The fact that the roads in the east welcomed the Cayman GT4 RS so warmly, without any stop-and-go nonsense or too many urban stretches, made us love this car even more," Bogner said. "On the racetrack at the Porsche factory in Leipzig, the GT4 RS took us all the way to its upper limits."

Living Vicariously

While most of us have driven our Porsches on some sort of beautiful road, it's rare to see someone get the chance to enjoy such a wide variety of vehicles on so many different types of surfaces. But such is the life of one writer in particular, through whom we can at least live vicariously.
