Porsche Celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the 911 in Style
Porsche is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the iconic 911 with a pretty cool clip.
Reason for Celebration
With the iconic Porsche 911 turning 60 years old, there's obviously a very good reason to celebrate that milestone. After all, few vehicles in general - let alone sports cars - can claim to have such long-lasting appeal, and today, enthusiasm for the 911 hasn't wavered one bit. While there are many celebrations being held for this special occasion, Porsche recently released a pretty cool video that does precisely that with guest appearances by more than one star - both human and of the automotive kind.
Special Delivery
In the video, Porsche Brand Ambassador and former World Endurance Champion Mark Webber join fellow Porsche endurance racing legend Stéphane Ortelli to show off two of the more recent additions to the 911 lineup - the 911 Dakar and the 911 GT3 RS. The clip - titled 911 Dakar Down Under - follows the delivery of a very special package for the 911's 60th birthday party in Australia.
Perfect Backdrop
The Porsche team chose a couple of very unique locations for the shoot, which look fantastic on film and provide the perfect backdrop for each 911 model. The first is Coober Pedy, an off-road setting that perfectly shows off the all-terrain capabilities of the rally-inspired 911 Dakar. This limited-edition model was designed to celebrate the first overall victory by Porsche in the Paris-Dakar Rally back in 1984, which also helped give birth to the all-wheel-drive 911 as we know it.
Well Rounded
That dramatic off-road footage is followed up perfectly by the polar opposite - some on-track time in the new 992 911 GT3 RS, which visited the Bend Motorsport Park outside Adelaide with Ortelli behind the wheel. If nothing else, this combination perfectly shows off just how incredibly versatile the 911 is - after all, this is a machine that can dominate more than one kind of motorsport.
