Porsche 997: Windshield Wiper Blades Review

If you're struggling to see out the windshield during a rain storm, it's time to replace your windshield wipers. Although all wipers will wear out time, some may have a shorter lifespan or suboptimal performance compared to others. Many 997 owners find that brand names such as Bosch and Rain-X are worth the extra cost in terms of reliability and performance.

You might not give your car's windshield wipers much thought until you're caught in a downpour or a snowstorm and find yourself struggling to see out the windshield. Even if they're not used much when you're driving, all windshield wipers break down over time. Aside from sunlight, the rubber edges are prone to wear and tear from dirt and debris. Going too long before replacing a blade can mean torn wiper blades and even a scratched windshield if the wiper arm rubs against the glass. Most 997 owners use the 22-inch blades, although a few found the 20-inch blades to fit a bit better.

The Bosch/OEM blades are highly regarded for their consistent performance and dependable results in extreme weather. Many 997 owners rely on these blades for use in areas with lots of heavy rain and/or snowfall in a year. Highlights include a smooth and quiet performance and a unique rubber technology that resists hardening. As long as your car isn't exposed to an excessive amount of sunlight or extreme temperatures, these blades should last for several years.

SilBlade

Performance – Designed for heavy rainfall as well as snow, ice, and road grime

Features – Durable construction that holds up well to sunlight, UV rays, ozone, oil, and typical dirt and grime from the road. An invisible water-repellent coating forms within three months of your first use to promote visibility.

Lifespan – Generally lasts for three or more years, although its lifespan may be a bit shorter in harsher climates

SilBlades are sometimes overshadowed by better known brands, but they are a great investment for 997 owners who want top quality wipers without the high price tag. You'll find many of the same features on these blades, such as durability in extreme weather conditions and resistance to road grime. The only drawback is that they aren't quite as round and fitted as other blades.

Rain-X

Price – $15

Shape – Curved

Performance – Designed for extreme weather conditions, rain, ice, and snow

Features – Smooth, chatter-free operation, prevents ice and snow build-up by eliminating exposed metal components

Lifespan – Customers generally report a lifespan of two to three years in harsher climates

These blades have a synthetic rubber squeegee, which protects against extreme weather conditions. They also guard against ice and snow build-up and keep windshields clear with their enhanced grip. Pre-installed adapters offer a flexible fit that works well with the 997's windshield. Although most consumers find that these blades hold up well, a few find that the more expensive OEM blades last the longest.
