Rare as They Get

There are plenty of rare and special Porsche 911 models that have existed throughout history, many of them from the air-cooled generation, of course. But few can lay claim to being the only one in existence, the rarest of the rare in the car world, which does apply to this stellar 1990 911 Carrera 4 that's set to be sold by Broad Arrow Auctions.

Stand Out

This particular car is part of a broader sale celebrating Porsche's 75th anniversary, which is taking place at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta, Georgia in June. While this Carrera 4 is one of a large group of special cars participating in the auction, it stands out for a number of reasons.

Porsche Owned

For starters, the paint-to-sample Green Pearlescent Metallic paint on the outside is a unique feature, as well as this car's Leather-to-Sample green interior with burgundy accents. Even better, this car was actually owned by Porsche itself from 1990-1993, registered in Böblingen, Germany, the home of many unique factory-owned Porsche vehicles over the years.

Unusual Combation

There are many other notable options present inside, including the Exclusive center console, power seats, air conditioning, cruise control, and a car phone. However, that bizarre color combination is a real eye-catcher, as well as a bit unusual for the period.

Original Powertrain

Power for this 911 Carrera 4 comes from Porsche's naturally-aspirated, air-cooled 3.6-liter inline-six, which was factory rated to produce 247 horsepower and 228 pound-feet of torque. It's mated to a five-speed manual transmission - which, like the engine, is the original numbers-matching unit.

Properly Driven

This car went on to land in the garages of a few other folks over the years, and has since accumulated a substantial 247,323 kilometers (153,679 miles), but it remains in stellar condition to this day. Despite that, Broad Arrow has assigned this one-of-one car with a notable history an auction estimate of $110,000-$140,000, though it's selling with no reserve, so it'll be interesting to see how that pans out.
