Best Look Yet

The fact that Porsche is working on an all-electric version of its Macan crossover is easily one of the worst-kept secrets in the automotive world, but rumors and speculation have also been surrounding this future offering for years now. At this point, it's easy to wonder if a Macan EV will actually happen, but a prototype that was recently spied by InsideEVs gives us our best look yet at what we can expect from this forthcoming electrified crossover.

Range Revelation

This newly spied Macan EV prototype is equipped with the Sport Chrono Package, which seemingly confirms its availability. However, perhaps the most revealing detail present in this recent sighting pertains to its range, as the driver display reveals that with a nearly full charge, the Macan has around 391 kilometers (243 miles) left to go.

Notable Development

It's worth noting that these numbers should be taken with a grain of salt, of course, given the fact that this is a prototype - not a production-ready model. Porsche could easily manipulate the Macan EV's range in the coming months, and is likely still toying around with it, at the very least. Regardless, this is still a notable development.

Competitive Offering

Bumping that figure up to the 300-mile mark would obviously make the Macan EV very competitive in today's world of all-electric crossovers, particularly if Porsche can do so with the inevitable performance-focused variant(s). But for now, we'll just have to wait and see how that turns out.

Underpinnings

Otherwise, not much is known about the new Macan EV, save for what it will offer underneath that familiar-looking skin. That includes the fact that the crossover will ride on Porsche's Premium Platform Electric (PPE), which is currently compatible with the brand's 100 kWh battery pack.

Fast Charging

That unit boasts a usable battery capacity of somewhere between 96 kWh and 98 kWh, and the Macan EV will also utilize an 800-volt electrical system and DC fast charging ability with slightly more than 270 kW of capability, meaning that it can charge from 5 percent to 80 percent in 25 minutes at full tilt.

Later, Not Sooner

Otherwise, the Macan EV looks, well, a lot like its ICE counterpart, inside and out. As far as when we might actually see the final production version of this future ride, it was recently delayed from 2023 to 2024, so we'll be waiting just a bit longer for the arrival of this highly-anticipated next installment in Porsche's EV revolution.
