Special Tribute

Every gearhead worth their salt is quite familiar with the name Ken Block, a man who entertained us for years with his motorsports endeavors and over-the-top automotive shenanigans. Block sadly passed away back in January - doing what he loved, ripping around on a snowmobile - but his legacy lives on via his daughter Lia Block, who has appeared in many videos alongside her father and clearly inherited his love for going fast. Now, Lia will pay tribute to her late dad by piloting his Hoonipigaus Porsche racer at Pikes Peak next month.

Second Chance

Ken Block set out to race his pink Porsche at Pikes Peak last year but ultimately had to bow out after mechanical issues surfaced during practice - rather, a pretty catastrophic one - total engine failure. Block and his team couldn't quite get the car fixed in time to qualify for the iconic event, and following his untimely passing, it seemed unlikely that the car would ever get that chance again.

Perfect Pairing

Lia - who is a mere 16 years old - seems like the perfect person to do just that, however. She spent quite a bit of time learning her father's craft and has thus far translated that to some success on the track, including a ninth-place finish at the 100 Acre Wood Rally in Salem, Missouri recently.

No Slouch

However, Block's pink Porsche is a completely different kind of animal - quite literally, as it's a tribute to the iconic 917/20 Porsche "Pink Pig" that raced in the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans. However, it's not slouch itself, packing a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter flat-six sending 1,400 horsepower to all four wheels.

Serious Racer

With an array of aero bits and pieces, this special machine generates a whopping 5,000 pounds of downforce, and it weighs a mere 2,400 pounds. The GPS-enabled suspension can raise or lower itself as the terrain calls for it, and Lia will bang through the gears using a sequential shifter. Clearly, this is a serious racer, and not just some gussied-up street machine.

Unique Challenges

Considering the fact that Pikes Peak is known for being one of the toughest - and more dangerous - events on the planet, Lia certainly has her hands full. The 12-mile-long trek up the mountain ends at 14,000+ feet above sea level and presents its own unique challenges along the way.

Tribute Run

However, for this year at least, Lia doesn't plan on completing a timed run at Pikes Peak, but rather, will just hop in the Porsche for a special tribute jaunt for her late father. On the flip side, Lia admits that she could potentially take on a timed run in the future, which would certainly be something that every gearhead on Earth would love to see.
