Petersen Automotive Museum Celebrates the Art of RUF
One of Germany's most iconic builders gets a special exhibit at the Petersen.
Paying Homage
RUF is one of the oldest and most celebrated aftermarket companies that focuses on the Porsche brand, even if a RUF Porsche isn't really a Porsche at all. Thus, it's only proper that the Petersen Automotive Museum pays homage to the iconic German builder, and now it has with a special exhibit called "Pfaffenhausen Speed Shop- The RUF Gallery."

Early Start
AUTO RUF was actually created by Alois Ruf Sr. way back in 1939, when it was nothing more than an auto repair garage in Pfaffenhausen, Germany. Ruf Sr. worked on any kind of car imaginable and built a few of his own over the years until fate intervened and changed the world forever.

Love at First Sight
One day, Ruf Sr. was out driving his custom bus when he witnessed a crash involving a Porsche 356. Ruf Jr. sprang into action and saved both the driver of the vehicle and the car itself, later rebuilding it in his garage. That spawned a love affair with the brand that would never waver.

Full-Time Endeavor
Ruf Sr. passed that love of Porsche down to his son, Alois Ruf Jr., who eventually took over AUTO RUF back in 1974. However, he decided to make his Porsche passion a full-time endeavor and launched his very first hand-built version just one year later.

History Lesson
The rest, as they say, is history. And to properly celebrate that long and illustrious history, the Petersen has teamed up with Luft legends Patrick Long and Jeff Zwart to select eight special RUF vehicles for its new exhibit that help tell the story of the brand, visually speaking.
