Zagato Porsche Carrera GTZ Sells For $1.8M

One of Six

One can argue that any Porsche Carrera GT is special, and well, one would be right. After all, we are talking about one of the greatest supercars ever conceived, not only by Porsche, but by anyone. However, while the Carrera GT is rare enough as is - just 1,270 units were produced in total - the Zagato Carrera GTZ is even more so, as just six were built, including a single prototype. This car is one of those six, and it just netted an impressive $1.8 million at an auction recently hosted by Carhuna.

Simple Request

The idea for the GTZ came from a Carrera GT owner that contacted Zagato back in 2013 with a simple request - he wanted to replace the car's rear deck area with something that lined up with the roofline, ditching the original mesh design with something a bit, well, cleaner in terms of style. However, things quickly escalated following that request.

Total Redo

Rather than just redo the deck lid area, Zagato wound up restyling almost the entire body of the Carrera GT, an attempt at making the car flow better visually, though the average bystander would have a hard time telling - a testament to the subtle nature of these changes. Aside from that change, only one of the five cars sold to the public had any other sort of modifications - in that case, a reworked interior.

Reworked Cabin

This particular car is, in fact, the only one of those five that had some interior revisions completed. The idea here was to make the interior more luxurious than the original, and of course, there are some "Z" logos embroidered on the headrests to signify this car's special nature.

Impressive Performance

The Carrera GTZ's 5.7-liter V10 remains untouched, however, meaning that it still churns out 603 horsepower and sounds the business as it revs to the moon. It sends power to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission, resulting in a still-impressive 0-60 time in the three-second range and a top speed of 205 mph.

One of a Kind

An incredibly rare and nicely executed example of an already rare and special car, the Zagato Carrera GT certainly earned its lofty sales price at auction. After all, it's quite literally the only one of its kind, if we count the interior upgrades, and how many others can say the same?
